February 15, 201214 yr Alright Zach. I don't want to argue, as a matter of fact.Come on, Word Not Allowed! It's always fun arguing with you. Can't you give me a chance to even the score?Which would make sense since Fsx is likely the engine actually rendering the textures. These are flat 2d textures being rendered and not 3d volumetric entities that you can fly through. I doubt that would change regardless of the mechanism providing those textures. The "spinning" seems less apparent with AS2012's textures, Something that was only apparent after I switched back to REX textures for a short time. I'll try some more, but I'm confident with this one. Regardless of the quasi scientific explanation to why that wouldn't happen, it's happening. It could even be that the textures just look different and therefore the pivoting of the clouds is slightly masked. Either way, I like it. Try the "Blast" 3D cloud set. February 15, 201214 yr Whatever floats your boat as my mother used to say. I don't know how that would be possible, but if that's what you are seeing then good on ya. This hobby is all about our personal perception of what caters to our liking, and that will always be true regardless of what product we are talking about. The beauty of this is we all have free choice to decide exactly what that means. - Aaron

February 16, 201214 yr Come on, Word Not Allowed! It's always fun arguing with you. Can't you give me a chance to even the score? Not this time :rolleyes:I'm so happy with performance in my FSX, that I don't wanna go into any more testing. Just waiting for my PFC to fullfill my experience. I'm done testing or arguging about that.
February 18, 201214 yr Commercial Member If you don't particularly need real world weather, Ideal Flight is a weather simulator for any time of day/year, and uses REX or any other textures, but gets great results from the stock FSX textures. It's not random so you can use in multiplayer modes, the same weather is at the same time on the same day. Includes jetstreams, and also a seamless thermals and deflected air currents engine which can be used with REX or ASE. Weather is computed as in real life, fly through a cold front with thunderstorms, warm front overcast, visibility and cloudbase computed from dewpoint etc. Have a look at the shots on my gallery at FSN:http://www.flightsim...eather-testing/Best regards;Steve Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
February 18, 201214 yr Commercial Member A few points raised in the thread perhaps I can help with:Spinning clouds as you pass below and look up is the way FSX works. The stock clouds offer the best view/performance in my opinion, but can look "samey". REX and ASE provide a larger selection of textures. The stock clouds provide a not too unrealistic whiteout view from inside a cloud if properly set up by the weather program.Clouds intersecting terrain is a problem for FSX. If you zoom the view then the view can cause the clouds/hill to flicker.REX, ASE, and the FSX real world weather must dress up the aerodrome reports they use to make the weather more interesting. Out at sea there are no reports. A global weather simulation like Ideal Flight has a weather report for anywhere on earth, which means continuous weather across the oceans. February 18, 201214 yr Planning to buy either of these... but I honestly don't know which to get! I'd prefer AS2012, yet the price is frankly stupid imo. REX's price is a lot more appealing, yet pretty much everything I've read on here points out that it's now slightly inferior to AS2012. Ofc REX Essentials is coming out soon but there's no way to know if it'll put it back on par with AS2012.
February 18, 201214 yr I purchased REX2 about a week or so before AS2012 was released. Then after reading up on the forums, it seemed the general consensus was REX for the textures, and ASE for the weather. I was about to go that route, then the REX team announced the upcoming REX Essentials update, which will be free for all registered REX users. So I decided to hold off , especially since if I got Active Sky for weather, I would probably just go ahead and get the new AS 2012, which included textures I really didn't need.So I have been running since, using REX2 and anxiously awaiting the release of REX Essentials - the more info they post over there on Essentials, the more excited I get. Looks like it will virtually be a whole new program. In the meantime, I am enjoying running the REX 2 textures, to me they just look fantastic. I use the 2048 HD clouds.I would say - If one is already a registered owner of REX, it is a no brainer, wait till Essentials is released and get it - it appears to be getting close to release. If one does not own either, and has to have a weather/texture program today and can not wait, go for AS 2012. If one does not own either, and can wait a short time, wait for the release of REX Essentials and see what feedback it gets.It is great that we have these programs available to us, to choose from...
