Question for all the pi##ed 3PD about Flight...

Featured Replies

If MS puts out content too fast, some people will not buy everything.
It was never meant for someone to buy everything, at least not all at once. Do you ever walk up to a store and comes home with every item that is being sold?

Considering he was a member of Aces I'd say he's not as clueless as you think.
You've got to prove this one.... :Nerd:Just the same even if he was one of those silent Redmond guys he was on one side of the fence and the rest of us was on the other. His statements like a few others wants to turn this franchise on it's head and have Microsoft control everything. The payware/freeware developers in this community are the bad guys... So saying he was on the Aces team is actually telling. I knew there were so called new people in here with agenda's to turn the conversation in a certain direction and if you're right we have a problem. From what I can tell with statements like,"3rd party's were hoping Flight would be there next cash cow. Seems the farmer that owns that cow is tired of us milking it for free." he's no friend of this community and the fact he's connected and/or a former Aces member is pretty telling (if this is true).

No sense wasting my time on this anymore based on that. You believe what you want to. I'm okay with that.

Sure it is. That's why there will only be Hawaii to buy on day one. When as many Hawaii and Maule and P51 DLC have been sold as MS thinks is possible in a given time, they will release another plane and an other scenery package. What will you do? Skip the next one? Wait a month or two for the next DLC? Fly Hawaii for two more months?

No, but I might if it has only three things for sale.

If they are selling something that I do not want, I will wait and play with what I have. I won't buy the Mustang or the Maule for example.
No, but I might if it has only three things for sale.
That does not sound like what you would do.

So now we are attacking 3PD's... Well since flight has no SDK once MS shuts flight and it's add-on's down you will have a dead platform. Trust me this will get shut down, since it will be a flop

Arwen, I am only describing what Flight seens like it will be on the 29th, given the lack of any information at all from MS (Thanks, MS!).As you know, I do hope in the future Flight will offer more, but at this point we really have no information to go on, and the general coments coming from the Executive Producer of Flight in his interviews are not encouraging.
I'm not happy that the emphasis from Howard (and on the Flight website) has been mostly on the gaming aspects of Flight. Right now the gamers are the target. My feeling is that MS figures that they don't have to convince fightsimmers to try Flight, but that the general gaming population is going to to take a lot more convincing. The problem is that that assumption led to MS pretty much ignoring the flightsim community, which turned a LOT of simmers off. We're now in a Catch-22 situation, where MS needs more than just the flightsim population to support Flight. But if Flight attracts a lot more gamers than simmers, then the focus is ALWAYS going to remain on the gaming aspects. On the other hand, if the DLC doesn't produce enough revenue, Flight will not last very long.So here we are, a relatively small number of flightsimmers, waiting for a sim that will replace FSX. Flight is our newest, greatest hope (in my opinion), but instead of supporting Flight, most are arguing about it . . . and many are ridiculing and rejecting Flight before they have even tried it, because it doesn't yet have everything that they want it to include. If the flightsim community cannot come together and support a new flightsim, than all we will end up with will be flying games.

No, we end up with them going back to the drawing board. There's no way MS is going to let X-Plane take the whole FS market (that's wishful thinking on my part). Flight is just some crap until they get their heads out the sand.Either way you can't expect people to buy into something on hope alone. We have a gutted FSX with a new menu gui that's going to really have to morph into something more serious before it's taken serious. Shutting out the very people that's carried this franchise for the last 17 years is not helping their cause. Arwen, promising things that Microsoft themselves aren't promising isn't helping either.

I wish you'd leave the pure emotion and hurt out of a lot of your Flight comments. It might save you having egg on your face later. I don't know Kevin personally, but I recall his postings elsewhere about his being hired by Microsoft/ACES. Used to live down in La-La land, then packed things up to the PNW, only to get a pink slip a while later. Now he's taken his talents and makes addons for FSX, despite the lack of a proper orange tag here at Avsim showing him to be a commercial member.Yet you want to attack him and it looks rather silly to do so, Les. Being a beta tester for some FS9 aircraft is fine, but not the equivalent of designing and developing addons for your meal ticket. You showed some bravery in another thread where you admitted that you are upset because you might not be able to take advantage of all the new and improved things done since FS9. I also asked how long this anger was going to last? So let me ask again, if Flight is not your cup of tea, will there still be active participation in this sub-forum by you, solely to rain on other people's parade?

O.k. I don't care what this guy has done, this statement is troubling:"3rd party's were hoping Flight would be there next cash cow. Seems the farmer that owns that cow is tired of us milking it for free." This has nothing to do with my dislike of Flight. I actually was meaning to limit my posts but here we have a thread that was started for the sole purpose to rial people up yet I'm wrong. How is it after all this time people can come in here and attack freeware/payware developers with impunity? It's like the world flipped upside down. Microsoft tells us their shutting out third party developers now those same people who've given so much over the years are suddenly thown under the bus. We even have an ex Aces member joining the fray as well.Again this is where we've come to:"3rd party's were hoping Flight would be there next cash cow. Seems the farmer that owns that cow is tired of us milking it for free."

There's a long list in which I feel I don't need to go over everything with you. Who have you worked with? :(
Im going to enjoy this. I havent had a digital wang measureing contest in a long time! I think a shorter list would be who have I NOT worked with. I will try to keep this cronological, but this is just off the top of my head and its hard to keep them orginized.First was with Oleg Maddox. You may know him from 1C/IL2 Sturmovik/1946/Pacific Fighters. I did the PBY Catalina, Spit IX, V, Ki-43, P-mega_shok.gif, Go-229, P-63, Cw-21B and maybe a few others. I also helped orginize all the 3rd party aircraft at IL2 Center after Ilya left. I did a few CFS3 projects after that. Then I went into FS2004 with Sky Unlimited and did a few things for them. I did a bunch of 3rd party stuff for FSX for company's like Milviz, A2A, Vertigo, Aerosoft, Razbam, FSD and maybe a few more. I also worked at ACES, MGS and now run my own 3rd party add-on maker KC Flight Shop. As I said, there is a reason you dont see a lot of big iron to the level of PMDG's NGX. It takes a lot of time, money, and a talent. If you disagree, please feel free to make one yourself and prove me wrong. Come back in 4-5 years and tell me how it went.
