February 16, 201214 yr Hi,Last month I've gotten my new graphics card. GTX 560Ti-448. It gave me great frame rates but unfortunately also lots of little lags and little stutters at the same time. Nothing works, FPS limiter, difference Inspector settings, ran Bojotes tweaking tool, overclock is stable. I'm already discussing this in another thread, so no need to talk about this here. I have also just sold my GTX 560TI-448 cuz I reallly regret that I bought it. Gives me lots of little lags as I said, and, what if I want a second one to put in SLI in the future? This card is barely sold in my country so it's gonna be hard to find one. So, I just sold it, unfortunately made around 50 euros of loss. Now, I want to buy the GTX 580. And before I will regret my purchase again, I have a few questions: framerates are great, no doubt. But, are you guys seeing any little lags, microstutters (even with an FPS limiter), or is your FSX experience entirely smooth as silk?Which are the recommended drivers for the GTX 580 and FSX together? Which brand shall I take? EVGA, MSI, Asus, Gigabyte?Hope you can help me!Arjen Arjen Vandervelde
February 16, 201214 yr I don´t think that the GTX580 will make any change to these shutters. They aren´t generated by the grafics card. There have to be other problems. I would keep your current card as she´s more than sufficient for FSX. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h

And after he replaced the mobo to one from MSI the problems were gone. And have already sold it, simply because I will never be able to buy a second one for SLI in future FS platforms. My OC is stable for 12 hours. I don't understand it anymore. I'm using PoolSize=0 which gives me great FPS, but other people say that it's better to use BP but I dunno which settings to use. And, I would prefer hearing an answer about the GTX 580 from somone who actually has the card... :) Arjen Vandervelde
February 16, 201214 yr I'm planning to get this Ge Force NVidia Gainward GTX 560 Ti GS 1Gb for my new planned rig.I currently run an EVGA GTX460 SE 1Gb and an older CPU, yet after running Bojote's tweak and Ryan's tweak, I'm having no stutters, etc, and it has been mentioned quite a few times here, that FSX is more CPU-dependent than GPU-dependent. Perhaps that's the area you need to look into? Rick Almeida
February 16, 201214 yr ArjenFor what my opinion is worth...Do you use TrackIR? If so I wonder if TrackIR may be some of your troubles; always give the TrackIR process 'above normal' priority, or a higher process priority than FSX.You can use a freeware program like Prifinity to set and maintain cpu affinities and process priorities. All I can say is that process priority solved a 'jerky' display for me when using TrackIR.
February 16, 201214 yr I myself do not own this card (I have the 590), but I know about 3 guys that recently picked up this card and they all have given it a thumbs up and have seen significant performace over their previous cards (285, 560, etc.) VATSIM: P2 | I1

Mine doesn't really wanna make it further than this unless I up the voltage a lot.ArjenFor what my opinion is worth...Do you use TrackIR? Or in other games? Cuz I heard that the performance of the 580 is not have big compared to the 560, in FSX. Arjen Vandervelde
February 16, 201214 yr And for the manufacturer, I'd choose Gigabyte - never disappointed me, be it either a mobo or a graphic card. Fly S A F E ! Andrej Drobun http://www.slo4fsx.si
February 16, 201214 yr Just out of interest, Arjen, have you tried posting this thread in the Hardware Forum which is under the stewardship of Word Not Allowed? You might have a lot more possible answers and solutions with all those clever, knowledgeable guys/gals there who could shed light on your issue. Nothing to lose and worth a shot, IMHO. Rick Almeida
February 16, 201214 yr IN answer to Arjen's original post, I use EVGA's 580, and have used it stock and overclocked, and now just use it stock, as I saw no improvement anywhere. I run a BP of 0, but have been all the way from 880000000 down to 8 meg, with only very slight difference in performance. It is probably the best card for FSX - certainly everyone that uses it proclaims that. To get the best, it needs to be matched with an SB at 4.6 or higher. I run 30 - 45 on all traffic except ships and boats and 25 road. All else is max except water, which is High 2.x. One 'tweak' I have just appied - and I like - is to lock Windows (7) at 30, using the latest Inspector, - but I also then lock FSX at 26 inside FSX. For some strange reason this works very very well. I also use TrackIR5. It has zero impact on fps. Below are (most?) of the performance-impacting slices out of my Single_Piston_VFR fsx.cfg. Normal weather is usually Cold Fronts or Fair Weather.[GRAPHICS]TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024ForceFullScreenVSync=1TEXTURE_QUALITY=3[bufferPools]UsePools=0[Main]FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.18 ProcSpeed=15505PerfBucket=7[Display]TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=157TextureMaxLoad=6 //30 // 30 ONLY when running 'unlimited' frames.UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=26[DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580.0]Mode=3840x1024x32TriLinear=1[TrafficManager]AIRPORT_SCENERY_DENSITY=2AirlineDensity=46ChangeTime=4.000000FreewayDensity=25GADensity=34IFROnly=0LeisureBoatsDensity=0ShipsAndFerriesDensity=0[TERRAIN]AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5DETAIL_TEXTURE=1LOD_RADIUS=4.500000MAX_DETAIL_TEXTURE_LEVEL=21MESH_COMPLEXITY=100MESH_RESOLUTION=25MIN_DETAIL_TEXTURE_LEVEL=21SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=2 TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=1400TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=2000TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=29WATER_EFFECTS=6[sCENERY]DAWN_DUSK_SMOOTHING=1IMAGE_COMPLEXITY=5LENSFLARE=0MAX_ASYNC_BATCHING_JOBS=3[Weather]CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=8CLOUD_DRAW_DISTANCE=4Hope this helps. February 16, 201214 yr Oh, what can cause it then? Another guy in this forum says he had the same stutters and had the same board as me. And after he replaced the mobo to one from MSI the problems were goneThat's because he rebuilt his system and reinstalled everything. That can do wonders. High FSX settings are the main cause of stutters. I don't see them often but I do get them occasionally. Depends on where I'm flying and in what scenery/aircraft. It's not enough for me to get upset though. FSX uses the CPU more than the GPU. In previous versions of FS, it was the reverse. You can reduce stuttering but doubt you'll ever get rid of all of it as the FSX engine is very old and based on old tech.Best regards,Jim
February 16, 201214 yr And for the manufacturer, I'd choose Gigabyte - never disappointed me, be it either a mobo or a graphic card.I have to +1 that.Since i upgraded to this rig last Feb i have not had a single thing to complain about, i get 24-30 fps locked at 30 through Inspector at Aerosoft Mega EGLL in the NGX UT2 AS2012 with sliders maxedapart from water....A very smooth experience.I'm loving my 580, she handles anything i chuck at her! February 16, 201214 yr Running a 580 and 2600K @ 4.7ghz. About the only time I ever see stutters is when I have AI set very high and at at JFK or Egll.. Seems to have the largest impact on performance. If I run around 30% , all is well. I have UT2. Cant complain about it. I went from a GTX 480 to a 580 and not sure I really saw much improvement in performance. Now when I went from a AMD 965 @ 3.9 to the 2600K. I experienced significant improvement in performance. Logical I reckon. Results may vary greatly. :) Edited February 16, 201214 yr by Barnstormer1 ArDee

Image quality (terrain mostly) is noticeably better, framerates are only about 10 fps higher (my benchmark flight is the default cessna heading N out of KSEA, default "Cold Front" weather). On a side note, by far the biggest FPS gain I get is overclocking the CPU, which now produces higher framerates and NO stutters or blinking water/terrain since the vid card is not a bottleneck anymore. It was a very expensive upgrade though (for me) since I also had to upgrade the PSU to run the new card.
