Why does she stop climbing?

Featured Replies

My 737-700NGX does not want to climb to a higher level. On vnav and lnav mode she stops climbing at about fl320, and/ or she climbs at a rate of 300ft/min.The plane is loaded with 40% fuel (8385kgs) and 52 passengers. Opt flight level is 399, max 410. The aftertakeoff checklist is completed, so it is not something like flaps.I have switched between econ climb and max climb with no difference.Who can advise me on this one?

Are you using a weather engine? Check your outside temps and make sure they aren't unusually high. Sometimes I get a bug in my weather data that I don't notice until the NGX starts straining to climb. Shut off your weather engine and then let it reload. Usually clears up the problem for me.

Chris Hicks

If you are using FSInn it is a well known bug, not really possible to solve it in an easy way without switching the weather to CAVOK, so I switched to Squawkbox.

Fredrik Persson

Yep, disable FSInn weather & either use FSX real weather or some other engine like REX or ASE

I remember that FSINN bug. Ran into that frequently when I flew VATSIM. Definitely try it without FSINN and without any weather enabled to see if that clears it up, and then re-engage weather to see if that is the cause.

I'm only using ASE and will try to climb again without it on my next flight. However I did not have these problems before, though ASE was on. I'm not certain of ASE being the cause of the problem. I have not installed something else in between.Thanx so far!

I have AS2012 (and had ASE before that)... they do OCCASSIONALLY suffer from the same "FSINN bug." Just so you know. Definitely see what your TAT and OAT temps are if it stops climbing regardless of what weather you're using.

It's just a data error. You don't have to leave the weather engine off, just shut it down and relaunch it so it loads a fresh set of data.

Or just press the large Refresh button in the ASE menu.

Fredrik Persson

That doesn't fix it for me. I have to completely shut it down and let it reconnect.

Ok, I have only had the problem once since switching to Squawkbox and refreshing ASE solved it in that case. I guess there is a lot of similar problems with different pieces of software.

Squawkbox doesn't transmit weather data to FSX. (That means that whenever you see "Weather data updated for XXXX" it's a lie.)
