Amazing Performance, No lag, stutter, impressed... BUT no TrackIR?

Since I haven't seen any sort of support forum for Flight, I'm going to use the beta forums to try to at least get some feedback from MS as to what the general plan is regarding head tracking (later, never, kinect only, etc...).In the meantime there is always TrackIR mouse look. I can assign the right mouse button to a toggle on my AV8R and use a rubberband to hold it...edit - I'm out of town and can't post on the beta forums from my phone. Does someone else with access want to give it a try.

Ok guys, all I can say is - I need Track IR support! I have only flown the first couple of missions, but dadgum I miss having my Track IR!
I must be the odd man out here, because I gave away my TrackIR. It was an older version. I got hooked on mouse view in FSX and never used the TIR.Fast forward to Flight and I didn't like the mouse look implementation, right-click held down, I wanted Ctrl-O!!!Now if I go back to FSX I almost always get caught trying to mouse look using right-click... It's hard for an old man to keep up with these things! I use a joystick in my right hand and my left hand is almost always on the mouse. It's just something I grew into...

LOLOL :o I can not operate a mouse with my left hand. It just won't work and when I try it sort of gives me vertigo or sick to my stomach or something. Weird huh? We are all so different!

Also FWIW- Kinect is $250 and too big to sit on top of a PC monitor or laptop screen. At that price, no PC flight simmer that already owns trackIR is going to buy it. And a casual gamer won't see the need. I'm hoping trackIR makes it in in a (not too distant) update.

Im not sure price has anything to do with it when it comes to more "hard core" users. I have seen them drop over $1000 on panels and controllers. I think its about FUNCTION. TrackIR does great at what it does. Head tracking! MS will need to offer MORE then just head tracking to sell anyone on Kinect for PC. And they do. First, Kinect you dont need to wear something on your head for it to track it. That right there may be worth the extra $100.Second, Kinect tracks MORE then just your head. It can track your hands, and fingers. Third, Kinect also has voice recognition. Let me paint you a pitchure of a product/DLC that would have most of the "hard core" lapping up Kinect's by the truck load. You sit down in front of your computer, and Kinect recognizes who you are, and loads your pilot profile for you. You pilot also happens to look like you since Kinect scanned your face in (its a 3D camera) and applied it to the pilot model. You start in your Maule, and start going through your check list, using your hand to control the mouse, and finger to flick the master on, and a twist of the hand to turn the ignition key. Dont forget to grab the throttle knob and pull it back to idle once its started! Once your warmed up, you say "Orion204 to tower, requesting clearance on main" and Flight responds "Orion204, your clear for main" and you pull onto main and take off. Thats my vision of what would Kinect can do for Flight, and I would drop $250 for that.

As nice as that sounds, I still wouldn't have anywhere to put it. I have one for my xbox 360 and i barely found room to put it next to my TV. It also needs its own power.

The Kinect for PC was modified so it will work with it being 1 foot away from you. It only needs USB power from a powered hub. The USB slot on the older 360 did not offer enough power for it. Never thought plugging in a device would be a deal breaker?

Well, I use a laptop and sometimes I'm at the dining table or sometimes the livingroom, etc... So somewhere to plug it in or just somewhere to physically place it would be tough for me. I know that may not be an issue for most users though. But, it does seem strange to me that they would go after more casual gamers and then hope that these casual gamers would buy a $250 accessory that also requires dedicated desk space.

It's actually not accurate, or not wholly so. At least, not as a general rule, as I can't speak specifically to the constraints of the Flight engine. Just to clarify further, even in Flight, TrackIR support shouldn't limit the integration of EZdok or other head tracking devices. For example: even though our own API was only developed for use with our hardware, it should be totally possible for the Flight team to support both TrackIR AND Kinect by implementing a Kinect API in addition to the TrackIR API.
Fair reply Seth. What I'm saying is that if MSGS makes any effort to integrate TIR's api, then they should also provide an entree for other devices and/or programs as well. Better still would be if they reintroduced a SimConnect server/client interface into Flight.
But, it does seem strange to me that they would go after more casual gamers and then hope that these casual gamers would buy a $250 accessory that also requires dedicated desk space.
As far as I know they do not have any plans for Kinect at the moment, so it's rather a moot point.

Flight has stated many times that they have no plans to support Kinect. Im just saying what they could do with Kinect. Its all possible, but again, the target users WONT spend 250$ on a Kinect, but hard core simmers would. That is my point.

I can't even drive let alone fly without TrackIr...Dealbreaker for me but sadly it looks so good.

You know the odd thing? I wanted TIR so bad that a very nice person at SOH sent me his TrackIR 4 free of charge. I got it working properly, but never could get used to it at all.It may just be a visceral leftover from my years in the Army. One never wears a cover indoors, and even though I live alone here, I just felt 8P sticking reflectors on my bald pate!

I started using TiR for combat sims like IL2 and it stuck well. It helps when your checking 6. Not as needed in GA, but it still brings me more into the sim then the hat switch.
