February 29, 201214 yr So, first impressions are positive:-- Performance seems STELLAR! ..... I see lots of autogen on high settings, I can have weather, plenty AA and AF, and yet this is one of the smoothest, stutter-free flight sim experiences I've had. I use a i7 so I'm assuming this is very well optimized for modern PCs.- Opening missions were good fun, and quite a good idea that you have to complete these 2 missions before the FREE FLIGHT feature in unlocked.- Considering the emphasis on this being a game experience and more accesible to all; I could not find any way of setting the old "Autorudder" function, so because I was only using a basic joystick, I couldn't steer the plane on the ground, (eg rudder). Is there no way to link the rudder control to the main aileron axis eg 'auto rudder' ?- The GUI is far easier to get familiar with than the old MSFS versions. - Is there no TrackIR support? .........seriously that would be sooo disappointing, I was about to purchase the Missions Pack to get the rest of Hawaii and also the Maule, until I saw that there was apparantly no TrackIR support. That would probably stop me using this otherwise great performing flight simulator. February 29, 201214 yr No Track IR support??Blapshemy I say!! :Kiss:Hopefully that will be added at some point... Don B
February 29, 201214 yr Commercial Member From what I have been reading in recent interviews, TiR support is VERY low on there priority. Thats a damn shame. Not even Kinect support is on the radar! The mouse look works well, but I truly want TiR support to free up my hand. You need to grow a 3rd hand to fly Flight and look at all the amazing scenery at the same time! February 29, 201214 yr My Joystick hat does a pretty good job of letting me control my views, and panning is way smoother than with FSX or X-Plane (at least on my older PC).I'm glad that they finally added the Eyepoint Move (right/left/up/down/forward/back) assignments, but they didn't get the joystick part quite right, as you still cannot use a second POV Hat to move smoothly in these head movements (even though it works fairly well if you use key presses . . . CTRL-A to move eyepoint to the left). Edited February 29, 201214 yr by Arwen ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE

February 29, 201214 yr Commercial Member I havent tried Freetrack yet, and I use it in FSX, but with mouse mode, you would need to be holding down the key to activate the mouse look, and when your not looking, you cant use the clickable cockpit. A native solution is the only solution unless TiR needs to make some sort of work-around. They have done that for many many games. IL2 never had official TiR support but they were able to hack in even 6DOF.Also, I did a quick check at the TiR forum. So far NOBODY has put in a request for Flight support. Maybe someone should? I see request for Fear 2 and Call of Duty 3, but not Flight? Maybe thats why TIR is not working. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer
February 29, 201214 yr Nope, no TrackIR. We asked for it and hounded about it, they didn't deliver. Don't get me started on toe brakes...[EDIT] off to try my toe brakes since the release candidate Edited February 29, 201214 yr by NWarty Blake
February 29, 201214 yr Commercial Member Nope, no TrackIR. We asked for it and hounded about it, they didn't deliver.I dont know if the blame rest's on MS, or TiR, or both, but it honestly feels like since MS is marketing Flight for the casual pilot/gamer, that they feek there is little to no need for TiR support. I hope this changes in the future. I have been using it since TiR 2, and it adds so much to the experience. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer

They support CH products, to include a HOTAS setup, but can't find the time in the last two years to include TrackIR...???? Edited February 29, 201214 yr by NWarty Blake
February 29, 201214 yr Commercial Member They dont support full rudder pedals yet. You cant quite configure the toe brakes on the CH rudder pedals (or any others) and some people were having problems with the extra axis on HOTAS systems like the X52. The extra axis on the X52 was fixed. I hope they fix toe brakes soon. Sadly this is what we get for not being the target demographic. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer
February 29, 201214 yr Believe me, I'm still po'd about the toe brakes. Since I just got done testing two minutes ago and they STILL DON'T WORK.Our questions: "Hey MS what about TrackIR, Toe Brakes and ATC?"MS's response: Edited February 29, 201214 yr by NWarty Blake
February 29, 201214 yr Until TrackIR support is added I will withhold making any purchases, and I am itching to get the Hawaiian pack with the RV. I see this is a BASIC requirement for any flightsim over the past 5 years (how is that for the reasonable person test?). I applaud MS for this fresh new approach, but at the same time there are some basics that need to be in place. I am also disappointed to hear that the toebrakes have not been resolved. I am not surprised though, as even the implementation in FSX is difficult to set up correctly, and one has to make some nonsensical sensitivity settings to get it working correctly (my Saitek Rudder Pedals at least).Landing a taildragger without toebrakes is....not flying.
February 29, 201214 yr Author Good points and discussions guys n gals. :)I think you are all correct that us TIR users simply aren't Microsoft's Demographic any more. But that is stunningly shortsighted; developing a TIR solution took 1 man day for a recent sim developer, start to finish. The Naturalpoint SDK is reputed to be amongst the best in the business. There are no subscriptive costs, contracts or buy-ins to negotiate with Naturalpoint. As Nike would say .............. February 29, 201214 yr As Nike would say .............. Microsoft: Just Do It! Given a bit of time the blanks and empty spots in Flight will likely be filled in. A quick look at the cfg file indicates much more to come, plus some new surprises. I don't imagine it will take long for Track IR to be supported either. However, it is really in the interest of Natural Point to rigorously pursue the Flight option considering how huge the potential market is. Hope so anyway.Kind regards,
February 29, 201214 yr Buy hawaii anyway, my friend. 'tis cheap. But i agree about track ir. the single biggest thing i miss about this, ms really needs to get this sorted. I didn't think i could fly without it, but the graphics are so smooth i'm putting up with it for now...How do you get mouse look to work when ur flying with a yoke and using a hat switch for views?
