Praise the Lord for X-Plane!

Soul saving, in some parts of this country, is a money making endeavor. AVSIM doesn't include "soul saving" in its charter, but as any good entrepreneur would, we are open to donations commensurate with the value of, in this case, your soul. So, please, as you leave today, place your $200,000 donation in the basket at the door... :( :(
;-) Tom, you remind me of Father Jimmy Swaggart who I used to sleepingly watch from my hotel room in Denver while recuping from jet lags...I am placing my best regards in your basket ;-)Jean-Jacques

Still haven't downloaded "Flight" yet.....As far as dismissing FSX in favor of XP-10, it isn't going to happen with me. The simple RVs included with XP10 were also there for version 9, and 8 as I remember. They're terrible, and have not been updated. Baytower has come out with a real nice RV7 for FSX. I just have a beta version from last year, but it's got the right feel to it.In the meantime (yesterday), someone was trying to use the RV9 included with XP10 for instrument scan practice, to supplement his real life flying. His initial complaint was that the sim was much too sensitive. I told him to get the Carenado Beech, as the RVs were just hand me downs. IMO, they should never have been included with XP10.L.Adamson

It makes it fairly easy to include objects from your last major release, but.......Bob

Likely the Lord has not been too involved with any of the flightsims
If the Lord was in any way involved, a lot of people would be out of a job. I don't think He wants that.

HelloI was a Beta tester for Flight and am currently playing it (I've purchased the Hawaii expansion pack and have all the planes). If it wasn't for Flight I wouldn't be bothering with any flight sim at all. I've seen Flight Simulator X on the shelves at Best Buy but it's never called to me. Flight on the other hand was right up my alley, however after playing it for the last couple of months (since Beta) I have to admit I feel like I'm missing something. Flying around in Flight is nice and all that, but it feels like I've purchased an auto racing game where all you do is race around the track by yourself trying to beat your own time. No fans, no pit crews, nobody else, just you, the car and the track. While this might be fun for a little while it can wear thin after a while. I feel that is where I might be with Flight. Therefore while searching for information to help me understand some of the instruments on some of the planes I found this forum, and while browsing the forum I discovered about other flight sims, including X-Plane. If it wasn't for Flight I wouldn't be on this forum and I would have never known about X-Plane. This isn't to say I've purchased X-Plane, yet. I am curious about what else is out there and I have to admit looking at some the features of X-Plane (a populated world! hooray!) it does seem very nice, and it's also nice to see a developer that is supporting/developing it's product (as opposed to Microsoft and Flight Simulator) and not relying solely on the kindness of strangers. However X-Plane is a BIG program and seems pretty complicated on a certain levels (it's like going from indoor rock climbing one day to trying to scale Mt. Kilimanjaro the next). Flight is simple and gives us noobs a proper entry into the world of flying. Do I think Flight can become on par with X-Plane and Fight Simulator in terms of features? I don't know. The problem for me is Microsoft has always been profit driven, not excellence driven (Vista, Windows Mobile OS or Zune anyone?), and they have been pretty tight lipped about the future of Flight both short term or long term. They're just as likely to update the program with all the features that the sim community have been asking for, but then again they're also just as likely to spend the next year releasing individual states as DLC (fly exciting Idaho!). I'm not sure I have the patience to sit and wait, hence my interest in other flight sims. Flight is not Microsoft's only product (at this point it's probably a blip on the income statement), and they could drop it tomorrow without much impact to them (the same probably can't be said for Laminar who has a big stake in X-Plane). However until we find out I say let's celebrate Flight for what it is: the game which allows everyone a chance to enjoy the ability to fly. Thanks for reading.

Welcome aboard FuzzyQ. I know this is the Xplane forum but just to muddy the water a little bit more for you, there is also an opensource flightsim called flightgear. I haven't tried it for 2 or 3 years now but I hear it is getting better all the time. Just google flightgear to have a look.

AMEN. There's dozens of <curseword> aircraft included with XP9 and XP10 which aren't even worth the fifteen seconds it takes to find and load them. They reduce the perceived quality of the sim for no reason. If someone really wants a five-year-old textureless model of an RV, they can get one from the standard freeware file libraries.I started with XP9 because of an Avsim review of Tom Kyler's MU-2, which convinced me that XP had come of age, and decent aircraft with good systems simulation were available. I didn't expect for a moment that XP9's stock aircraft would be any more worthwhile than FS9's (although nearly all of XP9's were much worse). From the beginning I had the expectation that I'd buy the top-quality payware aircraft and not bother with the stock aircraft. This is what I did with FS9, and it's worked very well with XP9 too.

Hello FuzzyQball1,Welcome to AVSIM and the X-Plane forum. I hope that you will enjoy membership as much as many of us have. As an (unfortunate) :( moderator of the Flight forums as well, I suggest you also post your Flight impressions over there. Once again, welcome!Kind regards,

Welcome fuzzyQBall1,I glad to see Flight has you considering the world of Flight sims. Regardless of which one you setting in with, I was hoping Flight would bring new people into the hobby. This is always a good thing. There are several choices availble to you and thats a good thing too. Personally Ive used them all and setted on X-Plane 10 as my choice of sim. But that doesnt mean its right for everyone. Do some reseach and download demos for those that have them and make a choice. I agree Flight is too limited to keep people interested for long, but it is a good place to start out. Like Stephen said above, Check out info in the flight forum, spend some time with Flight and the X-plane Demo and Flight Gear. Get an idea what each one offers and go for it.Keep in mind X-plane and FSX are a lot more involved than flight and require some addons to make them shine. They also require taking the time to set up your computer with them and setting up joysticks etc.. They are not as flayable out of the box, so do yourself a favor and spend some time with each one.Hope you find one you like. If you have any questions about X-Plane, this forum is a great place to start. Lots of knowledgeble people here that can help/advise you if you need. Same goes for the other forums.Rob

Thanks JasonX. Hard to believe 2 months ago I knew of only 1 flight sim, now it seems like there's 20 of them! :(

All this finally cleans up the market and, I will bet, clears the road for a new simulation combining the best of what exists and more. The Fly! spirit will be reborn. Meanwhile, I'll fly RW until my health betrays me.I am grateful to XP to run on LInux.
