March 1, 201214 yr I have an i7 2600k at stock with an Intel DP67BG motherboard and 16GB DDR3-1600 1.65v @ 1333 1.5v, HyperX 240GB SSD, GTX 580 1.5GB. I've been thinking about selling my i7 2600k and motherboard for around $340 and upgrading to an i7 3930k and an MSI X79A-GD45 (8D) motherboard. I'd like to see faster texture loading with extremely dense autogen in FSX and I might buy Xplane 10.
March 1, 201214 yr Ah man, you are thinking the wrong way. 3930k is mighty yes, but not as mighty as you are thinking.Problem is you really need to overclock that CPU, be that 2600k and 3930k. Both will deliver the same amount of autogen and texture loading in game is going to be pretty much the same, 4 threads or 6 threads. And about XP10 - did you even really try out the demo version to see how you like it? After you see the low quality models on the airports compared to stock FSX even? Well, good luck... and going for some good looking scenery provides abysmal performance? Save yourself money AND frustration.
March 1, 201214 yr I'd just wait a couple of weeks for Ivy Bridge to be available. Gizmodo published a story that Intel's internal benchmarks have been released, and that they had OC'd Ivy Bridge chips from 3.5 GHz to 7GHz. This was done on dry ice, but with a decent cooling system it seems that it will be capable of some serious overclocking.
March 1, 201214 yr I'd just wait a couple of weeks for Ivy Bridge to be available.+1!OC'd Ivy Bridge chips (...) to 7GHz.Yes, but did it rid FSX of the stutters? :LMAO:Seems like we're in for some serious OC'ing with IB. Long live Tri-Gate!Cheers,- jahman.

March 2, 201214 yr Bored of an 2600K??? You´ve got too much money, haven´t you?OC the hell out of it and I suppose you won´t be bored! Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
March 2, 201214 yr ..and I guess 4.9 and 5 are just not serious overclocking numbers? i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.

March 3, 201214 yr Author Wonder from some of the fsx benching tests maybe wait and get an ivybridge + PCie 3.0 MB + Nvidia Kepler 104?scott s..The latest bios of my motherboard supports the upcoming 22nm CPUs, I assume Ivy Bridge, but my motherboard does not support PCI-E 3.0 so I won't get the PCI-E 3.0 benefits unless I buy a Z68 Gen 3 motherboard. Maybe I'll just wait for Nvidia's upcoming high-end single GPU card and possibly upgrade from my GTX 580 1.5GB and keep my 2600k. As for overclocking, I can't risk it because I use my computer for business purposes as well and data integrity and stability is very important for me.
