Two of the best moments ever in a flight sim

Featured Replies

Guys, if you want to add a couple more "best moments", try the backcourse ILS approach to Lanai PHNY or the Honolulu PHNL LDA 26L approach at dusk or night with severe weather settings.
Thanks for the tip! I will give them a try! But er... where do I find the ILS frequency in MS Flight...? :o

I have to agree with all this GA love. Now that I have resolved my stuttering issues I was able to start using the RV. Went on a hamburger run. Ascended through rain layers towards the mountains and the level of immersion was far above anything I have ever experienced in a PC simulation. On decent was truly amazed by the way the shadowing and reflections changed as I descended from the mountain and the sun behind me was alternately blocked from view. Final approach was stunningly beautiful as that low rain layer again began to envelope the aircraft, yet a visual approach was still possible. The physics modelling provided an incredible feeling of immersion as the RV danced around as it floated over the runway threshold, responding faithfully to my subtle control inputs. That's it for me. FSX is now off my hard drive for good. Flight has been a huge leap forward for me. I can't wait for more scenery content, even though I have many weeks of fun ahed of me just with the first add-on pack. I can see myself sinking many hundreds of dollars into this game, but on the other hand, no need to spent any money on hardware upgrades like I did with every other flight sim I have bought in the past.

Click on the airport in the map screen. All runway and frequency info is given there.

One of those moments for me was when I was coming in to land at dusk - the sun was very low and just as I almost touched down my plane passed the tree line and for a very brief second, I actually saw the shadows of individual tree branches and leaves in my cockpit. Wow.Another was when I managed to get into a real spin. In all my FSX time I had never been able to actually spin a plane. It was so cool.

Isn't there a box to check also... like enable the nav info? can't quite remember and not ready to fly the two opening mission again to actually check...

I only see com radio's...?
I only see com radio's...?
Some box in the lower right iirc that needs to be checked... then the ILS feathers appear etc.Dang I'll fire it up and have a look...

What you need to do is click on the option free flight, then click on legend, you will see Airports, Radio Navigation and Mutliplayer. These options display the relevant info on the map. Make sure that the option Radio Navigation is ticked. The map will then display the ILS paths and radio beacons etc. If you zoom into an airport and run the mouse over the ILS feathers on the map it should display text giving you the ILS approach frequency. Same if you hover the mouse over a VOR, it will display info on it.
Hope that works

As I posted on the Beta forums "Looks great, runs smooth, flies great but too bad its has been handcuffed by limitation of 3PD aircraft & scenery"

Got my first Gold Landing tonight. I took a bunch of tries. Felt like my first solo in a single seater.

When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .

I also love that fact the award you get is of an airliner. :)
