March 2, 201214 yr I get it, many people now love Flight and think it's the second coming of Flight Simulation. What I don't understand is the aggressive attitude towards third parties or those of us that only support FSX. Mathjis (sp?) from Aerosoft made a post, and you had guys essentially "attacking" his position and some guy even going so far as to say he will never buy a product from a third party vendor or fly FSX ever again.Another guy posted a review from Flying magazine online and the author was discounted as a hack. Why? Because he didn't spend 20 hours playing it or because he isn't as enlightened as the Flight supporters? He would have been discounted just as easily if he did touch on every feature and still gave it the thumbs down. Heck, I played it for less than an hour and was able to make my mind up that it wasn't for me, because it will never be an open sandbox environment to play the way I want.Thread Title has been changed from "What's in the Kool-Aid?" to "What's Up?" I don't think that comparing mass murder in Jonestown with liking Flight is a good idea. Mod
March 2, 201214 yr Overjoyed people sometimes act like ######, and that applies to FS2004, FSX, XPlane, 3PD, Flight, Aerofly etc.Like I have said many times before, in other sites: You can be happy, just let others be happy too.And no, I don't think it is the Second Comming :LMAO: Edited March 2, 201214 yr by Kabronicus Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.

I think some of it is due to platitudes such as this one, that have absolutely no basis in fact, or actual knowledge, and yet are stated as such.Possibly a better statement would be "currently it is not an open sandbox environment to play the way I want"...
March 2, 201214 yr Commercial Member Would this be better directed at the mods in a PM?As for Mathjis, he clearly has a bone to pick with MS, and he even spread dis-information about Flight and was marketing his own products doing so. He also may still be in direct competition with Flight as he said in the past he is trying to develop his own flight sim once ACES closed. This means he has a possible conflict of interest. If I ever once insulted another 3rd party's product on this forum, WHILE MARKETING MY OWN, I would get an almost instant ban.Flying Magazine. Its only proper journalism that if your going to review a product, to at lease play THROUGH the product. Watch Zero Punctuation on Escapist Magazine. Even though its satire, he makes a point to finish even the games he hates to give them a proper chance. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer
March 2, 201214 yr Author currentlyWell, what do we currently know? We know that MS isn't even thinking of adding a third party marketplace for at least one-two years. We know that there will never be an SDK available to the public because why would you allow someone to build something to add to a free program and bypass MS? We know that Flight has no intention or desire to have global scenery because that is in direct conflict with their mission.
March 2, 201214 yr He also may still be in direct competition with Flight as he said in the past he is trying to develop his own flight sim once ACES closed.I actually feel he is in direct competition... "do I buy this scenery (or plane) for FSX... or maybe get that new DLC for FLIGHT". Some of our resources are going to be diverted to one or the other... I certainly can't have it all.

The others are just conjecture, at this point.
March 2, 201214 yr The "Kool-Aid" reference kinda makes me think that anyone who likes Flight must be somehow "stupid" with a drug spiked drink. . .except there is no drug spiked drink, ergo. . .------------ We know that MS isn't even thinking of adding a third party marketplace for at least one-two years. That's great news that there will be a 3rd party marketplace! We know that Flight has no intention or desire to have global scenery because that is in direct conflict with their mission. But the globe and it's land is already in Flight. . .we just don't have the planes to make it just yet :) (not that we ever will or that 'global content' will ever be available, but there seems to be strong evidence that maybe those items are in fact part of their mission).Seriously, it's hard to believe that you don't see the "possible" conflict of interest when a 3PD posts the DLC is too expensive or that a journalist reviewing a product apparently (based on the content) spent about 10 minutes actually using the product before composition. . . March 2, 201214 yr ... or those of us that only support FSX.I do not mean this in any other manner than what it says, but why are you in this forum, if your intention is to only support FSX?If anyone is committed to a particular version of the game, good for them. Why do they or you, in this instance, feel a need to visit and post here? It's like all the MS-related people going into the X-Plane forum and instigating things. Then to see the X-Plane people come into the Flight forum and instigate things.Simple questions, if I may? What are your reasons for coming in here and engaging in a conversation about something you have said you will not support? And what do you hope to achieve by doing so?
March 2, 201214 yr Commercial Member It was also clearly stated by Howard that Flight will focus on detailed, but small areas and MS has no intentions to cover the world. For the time being, this is a fact. This is still not recived by the flight supporters !as it is not recived that there will not be any freeware - and with that the consquencies and risk that third parties addon developers who actually have supported / or are supporting the very site / forum where you are bashing them right now will eventually withdraw the financial aid kindly offered !i let you draw the lines from there on !!
March 2, 201214 yr Commercial Member There will still be freeware. LOTS OF IT! Just for XP10 and FSX. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer
March 2, 201214 yr Commercial Member There will still be freeware. LOTS OF IT! Just for XP10 and FSX.xp developers are posting files all over the place - mostly at xplane official site itself and other places - .Fsx freeware will decay as time goes by - exactly as you see for all the others fs versions. Infacts fsx freeware releases are alredy in decline - Edited March 2, 201214 yr by arsenal82
March 2, 201214 yr and some guy even going so far as to say he will never buy a product from a third party vendor or fly FSX ever again.Yep. That was me....And your point is exactly???I've deleted FSX off my hard drive. I'm only using Flight exclusively as my civilian flight sim of choice as of yesterday. So no consideration need be given to the purchase of any flight sim products in the future other than those developed by MS for Flight.I did not say this because of Mathij's posts. I had already made my mind up that I was ditching FSX a few hours before even reading his last attempt to ditch dirt on Flight, with childish and loaded comments such as the "brain-dead" planes that MS are selling. I made the comment because someone asked me if I thought the products MS are selling as DLC could compete with third party products sold by Aerosoft, etc. Well, for my purposes the ones sold by MS are indeed better, they suit my usage better, they are priced better for how I will use them, and the host simulation is far better too in the way that I am using it.
March 2, 201214 yr Commercial Member I think there is about 1 year left of good FSX development left. After that I see it duying out and moving onto other sims. What sims the dev's move onto is up in the air. I see a few moving into XP, but its not an easy transition and the user base is considerably smaller then FSX. AFS is an option, but I havent seen the SDK. Flight by then may be open, but many dev's have been burned by MS and Flight and at that point, if XP gains traction, MS looses out.
