What's up?

I think there is about 1 year left of good FSX development left. After that I see it duying out and moving onto other sims. What sims the dev's move onto is up in the air. I see a few moving into XP, but its not an easy transition and the user base is considerably smaller then FSX. AFS is an option, but I havent seen the SDK. Flight by then may be open, but many dev's have been burned by MS and Flight and at that point, if XP gains traction, MS looses out.
Hi Kevin.I don't think MS have burned anyone really. It's just that the free for all is over and 3PD's don't like that fact.Fred.

I do not mean this in any other manner than what it says, but why are you in this forum, if your intention is to only support FSX?If anyone is committed to a particular version of the game, good for them. Why do they or you, in this instance, feel a need to visit and post here? It's like all the MS-related people going into the X-Plane forum and instigating things. Then to see the X-Plane people come into the Flight forum and instigate things.Simple questions, if I may? What are your reasons for coming in here and engaging in a conversation about something you have said you will not support? And what do you hope to achieve by doing so?
Good post meshman. If I don't like a game or program I walk away from it,no drama. Most of the gaming forums Im a member of have being ruined by guys who ''hate'' the game and still hang around the forum to voice their displeasure.I don't love Flight, not yet but looks very promising if things like ATC,real weather etc etc are added.Would have loved FS11 but such is life, still enjoy FSX and hope to enjoy Flight in the coming years.

It's funny in that yesterday I saw an exact parallel in out local motorsport V8 supercar series here in Australia. It's been a Ford versus Holden series for nearly 20 years, but next year the rules change and Nissan is joining in. Some people must have short memories, but Nissan was blowing away the Ford and Holden competition back in 1992 and Nissan were actually banned from Group A racing. But Nissan is the first manufacturer to come back on board in Australian motorsport, despite being banned back in 1992 (because they used the rules to their advantage and built a virtually undefeatable but fully legal car). So one of the drivers yesterday who drives for Holden starts denegrating Nissan with veiled insults such as they won't be prepared for the level of competition and "it's nice for them to come on board because someone has to come third" (i.e last).I mean, what a stupid tool this guy is to say garbage like that. Nissan is going to win races (because, umm, that is what they do...) and one day this guy might be wishing be had a job driving with them. Now why would Nissan consider him for a job after saying those things, when there are so many other excellent drivers out there who represent other brands but have welcomed Nissan? So if third party developers want to continue burning bridges by making the comments they do, well maybe they ought to take up chess and learn to think a few moves ahead.

This is still not recived by the flight supporters !as it is not recived that there will not be any freeware - and with that the consquencies and risk that third parties addon developers who actually have supported / or are supporting the very site / forum where you are bashing them right now will eventually withdraw the financial aid kindly offered !i let you draw the lines from there on !!
You must have mixed up a couple of thoughts in there somewhere. Whom am I bashing with my statement?

Since I freelance a lot, I have a lot of contact with MANY other 3rd party's, and many of them are ###### at being left out of Flight. Im not going to debate if them being ###### of is justified or not, thats beyond the point. The point is, MS has ###### a LOT of them off, and many of them are taking a very vocal stand AGAINST Flight. I admire many of these people and there conviction to stand up for what they feel is wrong, but MS has burned many bridges with them. Ones that wont be easy to repair, if at all possible.

With no public SDK, it will be almost impossible for anyone to make freeware for Flight. Thats not to say the Flight team wont release free add-on's or upgrades themselvs in the future. The only source of free add-on's right now is X-Planes or the old Microsoft Flight Sim series, and I dont see that duying any time soon.

I see this likewise. Sure, freeware devs can still use the old platform for a couple of years. But they are excluded from any further progress in FS. And that is not good for the FS community.

I am here to discuss the Flight product-- both good and bad. If you or anyone else loves it, that's fine with me. There is a double standard though that I was addressing specifically with this thread in regards to the points I made in the OP. If you would prefer to be in a forum, where everyone marches to the same beat and any words to the contrary dissatisfy you-- then I will kindly not post here anymore (if you ask).

Of course not but the fact remains that MS has closed its doors for now.Let's hope that changes in the future. MS themselves have not totally ruled it out.Fred.

Without a pulic sdk - = No Freeware - Ms team can be as good as you want - can not fill the gap - left by the absence of a public sdk.No Sdk - No new designers / talents getting involvedNo Sdk - No third parties addons = no money re-introduced into the system - which in return support indeed web sites - files libraries - repairs of servers etc etc.No Sdk - YOU will not see Ever a freeware addon for Flight - and YOU will have to pay for every single expansion you want / need.the Sdk is the base from which the flight simulator community is build upon - without it - the only and inevitable results will be the colapse of it !

Probably I have missed something but could anybody please give me the link where MS reps say there will be no SDK and that third party devs will not be engaged in development of some addons in future? I'd like to see official statement.

Stan

It's in the latest interview with Howard. He says they've set their course for the next two years and vaguely hints that they might allow 3rd party developers one day. Very unconvincingly I might add. Sound like more of an empty promise to get people off his back then any real commitment.

FSX is not going away. Everything it is today can and should be fully preserved as long as possible (probably a very long time). It seems to be pretty "maxed out" in terms of the variety of add-ons and upgrades. Sure, in theory there is nearly an infinite more things that could be done to make it incrementally "better", but if time were frozen, it still offers a wealth of simming from all directions.Personally I don't mind paying for every single expansion I want. It's a lot of work to make a good one. There probably will be new designers/talents getting involved, either joining MSFTs team or when Flight is opened to private developers. There will be plenty of money going into Flight along the way, even without third parties - Sites like AvSim will adjust from lower revenues from 3rd parties / reduced bandwidth requirements - it won't be an instant thing. Lastly, I don't see the flight sim community collapsing - FSX is here for a long time and it will probably even expand due to Flight. It's all good.
