With the collapse of Flight and most publishers washing their hands of GFWL(Codemasters/Creative Assembly/Slightly Mad Studios/Bohemia etc.etc.)will GFWL be next in line for the cull. Microsoft Games Division seem to be in turmoil the past few years and I remember them hailing Flight in 2010 as the start of a new era for MS in taking pc gaming seriously. Would love to know what happened to the once kingpin of pc gaming. Any thoughts?

Will keep FSX installed and all my addons,but just don't see myself staying on board.Time for me to move on,can't handle the 2005/6 visuals any more,FSX with modern graphics and I would have been happy as a pig in. As I stated before,have spent a long many hours trying to like XP but just not happening. 4 or 5 years time maybe there will be something to get me back flying,at least my wife is happy now lol.

Really would have loved FS11,don't understand why MS killed the franchise.Anyway all good things come to an end,feel really sorry for the guys and gals at the Studio who were let go,hope all find employment soon as from what Flight could have been they are a talented bunch. Pretty much the end of flight simming for me as I think Xplane is terrible and don't really understand the nuances of prepar3d. Anyway not bitter,will move on an concentrate all my pc time to racing sims. Hope this sub section of Flight doesn't die straight away for the sake of the people left playing for the next few months. RIP MS Flight Sim(some really great times had over the past 15 years or so,gone but not forgotten).

Just came back to Flight this week after after quiting Hawaii 3 months ago(played a lot on the Beta so not knocking Hawaii). Had some MS points left over so decided to check out Alaska.Why have they downgraded the graphics?Textures in and around most of the airports are really bad.Would have thought from seeing the screenshots that Alaska was going to be a visual feast,I was mistaken. As for the few challenges I only completed the 1st landing challenge as they make me use the Cub for the next couple(have tried to fly the Cub without the VC and just can't do it with no instruments to line myself up for approach).Have no interest in doing the Gold rings challenges after doing them in Hawaii. I would consider myself a ''casual simmer'' for the past 25 years and have enjoyed all sorts of flight sims/games so have been left really confused and extremely dissapointed by what seems to have been a half hearted rush job on Alaska,hence the very reasonable price for it. Plus side it's great to have Trackir implented and works really well in Flight. Anyway Im not finished with Flight yet,going to wait and see what happens over the coming months as I think MS are really testing the waters with Alaska and seeing what they can get away it. I see a lot of fellow members that really like Alaska so maybe I have too high expectations after what I considered a solid start for Flight. Really hope that MS starts to get serious about Flight in the upcoming months(don't mean make into FS11)as there is still huge potential for it. p.s. Great to see the Flight section of Avsim a nice place to visit again after the turmoil pre and post release, as I much rather read constructive and helpful posts without having to trawl through the no VC/not FSX nonense and flaming/trolling posts. So thanks to Tom and the mods for rescuing the Flight forum.

Read all the reviews on the GTX670,very good card and only marinally behind the 680 for a lot less money. What res are you running Flight at?Hope you enjoy,as dburne mentioned a really good upgrade from a 280.

Have to agree,spent 90% of my sim flying time in Europe over the past 15 years.Mainland USA holds no interest for me.Looking forward to Alaska all the same but hoping some part of Europe is covered before the end of 2012.Hawaii is very nice apart from being empty of life(cars/birds/animals/atc/ai/empty int airports etc),hopefully all added sooner or later.

Ok,just received a reply from MS about the free DLC for Beta testers.Seems only some people who were ''helpful'' during the Beta were ''selected'' for the free DLC.Not too unhappy as at least MS bothered to reply to my query.Next step is to buy Xbox points for the first time ever so I can buy Alaska.Mods can delete this thread now

Didn't know it was a select few,thanks Keven.Bad news will have to wait for Alaska so.Even if I got the Maule I would be happy.

Have sent MS an email saying I didn't receive my email with codes for free DLC yet.Have searched my spam so defo have not received the email with activation codes.Still waiting on reply as theres no way im paying for the DLC when the previous email said I was getting it for free.Hopefully just an oversight on MS side,really want the Hawaiian Adventure Pack and Maule.They can keep the P-51 lol.BTW I never broke my NDA I signed not like a few members on here.

Yes,depends how much you want to overclock it.You could gain between 6-12 fps with a decent overclock.

Great to hear Ark.Are you using vsync?Have overclocked by gpu today and am getting about 5-10 fps increase.

Very well written Viper.Within a couple of weeks I can see this forum blossoming with talk of DLC,helpful tips to newcomers and trobleshooting/performance threads.Seems to be a lot of people young and old,veterans and virgins who are embracing Flight in this Forum now.I think we all want the same thing in the end, for Flight to grow into something enjoyable for simmers and gamers alike.Think there has been enough heated and over the top discussions pre release.Again thanks Viper,hope everyone reads your post.

Hi oz,These are the exact comments we should be avoiding.Im 36 years old and have been flight simming/gaming for a long time so the ''''7 year olds'' remark is kinda insulting to people who are enjoying Flight.I think most people are realising that MS Flight Simulator is over and are having trouble dealing with this.As I have said I would have loved nothing better than FS11,but alas it looks dead in the water.Enjoying Flight for what it is so far even though I never really enjoyed GA,just hoping Flight can develope in the future adding the missing aspects of what we were used to.Will continue to use FSX and for people that hate Flight they have this option as well as XP and other Flight sims.BTW if I did hate Flight I wouldn't be in this section of the forum,I would be using FSX or playing other games.

Waited five years for the price of 30''monitors to drop to a reasonable price in Europe.Finally it's happening and more and more people are upgrading to 2560x1600.Have gone from gaming on size 14''-17-19-20-22-24-27-30'' during the past 30 years.Ever step up has been significant for me but as I've said gaming @2560x1600 is a whole new ball game.Have fallen back in love with FSX and have found myself playing through my old games(Halflife,Rome TW,BF2 etc).If Flight does add ATC,upgraded weather,jets,AI etc in the coming months or years Im sure performance will take a hit so hopefully when Kelper arrives I should still be able to max out Flight at this res foryears to come.Have tried to use my pc on an LCD TV with HDMI but could never get used to it.

Good post meshman.If I don't like a game or program I walk away from it,no drama.Most of the gaming forums Im a member of have being ruined by guys who ''hate'' the game and still hang around the forum to voice their displeasure.I don't love Flight,not yet but looks very promising if things like ATC,real weather etc etc are added.Would have loved FS11 but such is life,still enjoy FSX and hope to enjoy Flight in the coming years.

I sit about 2ft from monitor,was using a Dell 27'' for the past 3 years,was nervous moving to a 30'' but so glad i did.

Just bought a U3011 Dell 30'' monitor this week.Have all settings at max in Flight and im getting decent fps.Lowest fps around built up areas are 27-32,everywhere else about 45-60.Even when it drops to mid 20s I don't notice any stutters/screen tearing,still very smooth.Im only using a gtx 580 1.5gb gpu.Can't wait to upgrade to the gtx 680 2gb when released later this year.Can't believe how good gaming is at 2560x1600,will never go back to anything lower.Can other members post their performance with Flight @25600x1600?BTW FSX at this res is also fantastic looking with very little AA problems.Glad to see so many people enjoying Flight,interesing few months ahead.

Hi,Was part of the Beta and got an email last month saying I will get the Hawaii Adv. Pack for free,still no sign of it.Any other members that were part of the Beta not get it?Is there anyway I can contact MS about this?Anyway just got a Dell 30'' this week,Flight looks and runs really well @2560x1600 even though Im only using 1 gtx 580 1.5gb gpu,looking forward to Kelper.

Hi Shivers,What do you expect to gain from this ''project''?FSX users will still support 3PD's regardless of the upcoming Flight.Would love if 3PD's discount their products.The problem with FSX is it's getting outdated now(still the best flight sim atm).Don't know how much life is left in FSX.MS seems to have put maybe the final nail in the MS Flight Simulator franchise.MS Flight is taking a different direction to what we're used too,only time will tell if it's a wise move or not.As for the future of 3PD'S It seems that Xplane is their best option if FSX users migrate to Flight.

Just bought another couple of Airports from UK2000 and from Eiresim(Irish Airports which are fantasic looking and fps friendly).Anybody buy GSX?This thread shouldn't be a dig at Flight.It's the exact kind of thread that got the Flight sub forum closed,although Tom and the mod crew seem happy to let Flight get bashed here,strange.Anyway,would love to here of any good Airports based in Europe as that's where I do most of my flying.

Good post,think you hit the nail on the head.MS are going to wait and see what the new breed of Flight gamers want.Can see jets being released very soon after the base pack is released.Young gamers will want speed and won't be happy until they get jets.Going to be an interesting few months ahead in regards to how MS expands Flight.Would be very surprised after 3 years of development that they only have Hawaii and 4 or 5 planes made.Will see in a few weeks,maybe we will get ATC,real weather,jets sooner than people think.
