Review from Rock, Paper, Shotgun

Featured Replies

http://www.rockpaper...urf/#more-97127A good review, and some ideas for fun!
A sort of tongue in cheek review from a different perspective! I find that as I read reviews on flight, I am, like a mouse with a quickly learned Pavlovian response, shying away from known aviation themed forums.Too much baggage.I am fascinated to know what regular consumers are taking away from the flight experience, since resistance from other segments makes it pretty clear that the casual audience will be the most influential in further developments.Beyond all that, I admit I would have never even have dreamed of landing on somebody's roof! :LMAO:

Yesterday four of us got our Icons on the slanted roof next to the cruise ship - we were all rolling watching other's failed attempts - it was a hoot.

I saw the title with Rock Paper Shotgun and I thing "Ow god, this will be bad".I read the first line"How odd. My first sixty minutes with a new MS flight simulator are usually divided equally between joystick configuration, graphics slider fiddling, and sighing at single-figure framerates. In Flight, 90% of that introductory hour has been spent – well – in flight."Im thinkin this might be a good review! Heh. At least he got more sim time out of it then that other review in his first sentance.OK. It was an entertaining review, but didnt really go into depth. Just "I flew, and I landed on some odd things"Quite impressed with some of his landings though! I can only guess a STRONG headwind played a factor in some of them ;)

Wow! That was certainly refreshing. I'm also very impressed by the mature level of the comments. The last commenter has again brought up that old "lack of navaids" mantra, but I'm not bothered enough to register there just so I can correct his mispercepton...

I think that review took in the 'fun' part of Flight, landing in places you shouldn't be!

He did bring up a good point. MS first teaches you the proper way to land using PAPI lights (flight sim) then tells you to collect a gold star under a bridge (arcade). Identity crisis?Overall, I would rather MS teach people how to fly under bridges in Flight then to shoot each other in the crotch in Halo.

Well, 5.1 was my first flight simulator. I've been a fan of all iterations since.Have to say I am really enjoying Flight, just taking it for what it is. And it's actually rather good fun! Far better than I thought it would be, have to admit.Good to read some positive opinion in the 'press'.

Yeah. I read just a bit into that 2nd review and had to stop. Doesn't anybody remember the reaction to FSX?A perfect example of why I am avoiding the regular flight sites on this. Right now, its just a mass temper tantrum, and its........ embarrassing!

I was reading the SimHQ forums on Flight. You know what I saw over and over? "What? No TiR support? FAIL!"They dont remember that FSX didnt have TIR support.... Nor did 2002 or 2004... Or IL2 for that matter.I also see "What? 360 controller support? FAIL!"Again. FSX has 360 and mouse support...Its just proof that some people will find ANY reason to hate Flight just to hate Flight. They call chasing rings and dodging balloons childish, but making up reasons to hate something you have clearly never played is even more childish.

The thing that gets me is, how do they intend to influence Microsoft by behaving this way? Any influence they might have had to provide useful enthusiast guidance to the expansion of this effort is being eroded almost by the second as statements that can not be taken back leave behind scores of burned bridges.

That is why we are bound and determined that we in AVSIM are going to rise above that behaviour. If that means that we are considered unfair and harsh, then unfortunate as that is, then so be it. This forum will not go the way it did before and have to be shut down because it was so toxic. It will not!

One doesn't need to hit one's head with a hammer to know it will hurt... Reviews and opinions are rarely based on empirical research. We're all biased one way or another. Best of all, a lot of people CARE. As the positive crowd keeps repeating: Flight is free! Bad reviews won't keep people from downloading and trying it out for themselves. The target audience for Flight probably doesn't hang around flight imulator sites in the first place. For better or worse, landing the Icon on roofs is probably the first and only fun thing I've found in Flight over the last three days, so it will stay installed for at least another day!
