Estimated Mission Time: in case you think it isn't correct...

Featured Replies

I read some posts here and there stating the estimated times of missions aren't correct at ALL. Missions always take a LOT longer then the estimated time. I was also suprised how long a 15 minute mission could take... until I RTFM. :wink:Here's a snippet from the manual:Estimated TimeThe estimated time represents an average completion time for each mission. Estimates are based on use of the Skip to Waypoint feature. So beware: when a mission has an estimated time of 15 minutes, it might as well be 30. Or 60. Or longer. You'll never really know. It all depends on the distances between waypoints. At first I wondered why MS did this, but after giving it some thought I concluded they must have done this because you can choose the plane you want to do the mission with. And for example a Mustang needs less time than a Stearman to cross 25 nm of course. :wink:P.S. The skipping in missions will NOT be penalized: there is no bonus in missions for not skipping waypoints as there is with jobs!

Look, I do not fly for points, levels, gold statues, Oscars..., I dont care if there is no bonus in missions, Ill fly complete mission. That "skip to waypoint" feature is just ridiculous, and ET to complete mission too.

Giving an ET based on the use of skipping is better then giving no ET at all, which was the only other option. And btw I think a lot of FSX-slew-users (and there are a lot of them) will be quite happy with the skip option.

Flight offers similar feature (to be honest, severely degraded). :P

You mean dragging the plane on the map? You could also do that in FSX btw. And it's indeed a degraded version of slew because you always end up at 1000 AGL.

Yes. It could be a nice feature, if they just made High res. map and ability to start on ground.

HelloNever used slew or time compression in FS9 or FSX, never ever flown a mission in FSX.From cold and dark every time, flight planning and charts, researching the airports, sids and stars ect, that's what floats my boat.Skip to waypoint is for those with short attention spans, missions are for those who lack imagination. There are plenty of different ways to enjoy the hobby thankfully and I am pleased for the GA flyers that they seem to be getting an ideal platform for their use.Back to FSX for me until MS put a bit more depth into what looks like it could great base platform

If you skip to waypoint on the wedding party mission you don't get the Ukelele award. I don't know if there are other awards like that.

It's not about getting the Ukelele award - it's about hearing her play ;-)

Heck, I missed that one. Can I go back and do it again? :Party:Ray

LOL! LOL! I had to put two "LOL" cause this forum says one "LOL" was not enough words... so, what I'm saying is, "what you said was funny, but not double-funny!" LOL!

And this, I believe, is the reasoning as to why implementing an autopilot feature wasn't a launch priority for the dev team. Who needs AP when you can just 'skip ahead'? That said, I have been enjoying hand flying the missions and jobs, and just ignore the estimated time. :) (But I still do miss my autopilot lol!) :)-George

Happy Flying!
