Another "Which Traffic add-on" thread! (sorry...)

Featured Replies

I have had a look at the reviews on AVSIM and elsewhere and checked out the various threads and I confess, I am still unsure as to which add-on would best service my needs.I am looking to get real world Traffic eye-candy into my FSX.Priorities are:1) Decent looking, real world AI planes, both GA and Airliners2) Fairly realistic AI behaviour in and around airports3) Minimal performance impact (spec in sig)I am not that fussed about the AI flying real world routes per se, I just want the feeling of being in the real world when I look out of the window and see recognisable planes from known carriers mooching about the airports, taking off and landing etc.It seems my options (in order of current preference) are:1) Traffic X - looks decent, slightly cheaper than some of the competition, top of my list at the moment.2) My Traffic X lite - on the surface would seem to be ideal for my requirements...though a little worried that if I get bitten by the AI Traffic bug, I would find it too simplistic and limited further down the line!?3) Ultimate Traffic 2 - seems too much for my requirements; overly complex and more expensive?4) My Traffic X and My Traffic 2010 - these two flavours of what seems to be the same thing are confusing me somewhat! Not sure where I stand with these.5) WOAI - don't know much on this one except that it is free!Any thoughts/advice/suggestions would be gratefully received.Cheers

Cheers!

HelloI like MyTraffic X pro, fantastic support from the author and good on fpsHere are the differences between the various versions

I have TrafficX. Some points:

  • keep in mind that TrafficX is fairly old. You may not see the latest liveries on the planes
  • on the plus side, all models are DX10 compatible, if that matters to you
  • there is a noticable frame rate impact when the airport aprons are crowded
  • ai plane sounds are only so-so
  • I don't know what you mean by "realistic behavior". TrafficX doesn't have its own engine. It compiles only traffic for FSX's AI engine, so the behavior you see is the same as with the FSX default AI planes

Regards,

Tom

MrBenevolent, Just to keep things clear (as mud sometimes) TrafficX is a TOTALLY different product than MyTrafficX Professional 5.4.My trafficX 5.4 IS Totally fresh and new. Burkard(Developer) keep the program on a six month cycle. Version 5.4 was released about 4 months ago and in April he will release on Free Update 5.4a that willadd Airports, Airlines, repaints and schedules. Six months after that a new Version will be released that will be a Major upgrade and will have a small price for all registered users. Also I have an OLD system as compared to yours, and running REX, GEX, UTX, FSGMesh, NGX, MTX5.4 Airline traffic set at 45% G/A traffic at 25% I get very resonable FPS.Q6600 2.4 , 4gb ram, GTX460 1 g win7 64Cheers,Glen

I bought My Traffic X Professional 5.4 and I am very happy with it. Basically it meets your requirements very well. It gives you loads of traffic, much more than WOAI + lots of manually installed traffic ever gave to me. Liveries are real world ones of real world airlines though some are outdated, but anyway it gives you lots of very believable traffic all around the world and most likely is much more up to date than Traffic X. At least most big world class airlines I have seen looked relatively up to date and nothing to complain with others either.Bad thing about My Traffic is that many of the models are not as good looking as World of AI ones for example, but on the other hand they are very much more FPS friendly and native FSX. Routes in My Traffic are not exact real world ones, but believable mostly. My Traffic 5.4 has also all kinds of tools with it, but anyway you are not forced to use them. I didnt do any configuration really other than stuff related to installation and it has all been working fine.

I do use DX10 generally as I get smoother performance...By "realistic behaviour" I mean that the planes park, manoeuvre, taxi and take off in a relatively realistic fashion and in a way that won't cause issues for me when I too am on the ground!

Start with WOAI.....because it is free. At least this way you can get going without spending money.I use UT2 and have for years now. I like it very much. It runs outside of FSX and you can adjust a lot of settings including airline percentage, GA percentage or limit your aircraft spawn levels. Which is good for slower machines.Cheers

I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

If he uses DX10, then he can scrap WOAI for sure.

By "realistic behaviour" I mean that the planes park, manoeuvre, taxi and take off in a relatively realistic fashion and in a way that won't cause issues for me when I too am on the ground!
Let's put it that way: it's not unrealistic. The planes do taxi, park etc. according to the schedules set in the TrafficX control center. It's been a long time since I used the default FSX traffic, but I don't think that the behavior is different.

Tom

I believe that its pretty much same in every traffic addon, at least parking and taxi part & havent seen really much difference in their performing when in the air. Probably you will get some bad rush on big international airports with all these addons, FSX is just not made to handle big amount of traffic same time.

Well thanks for all the advice guys...my credit card was feeling itchy, so I bought My Traffic X 5.4 Pro!It seems to achieve all I wanted so far;The interface is a little clunky and amateurish if I am being honest, but I was impressed with how alive my airports now are!I ended up bring the traffic sliders down to about 30% for airlines and 20% for GA and there is stil more traffic than I ever saw with the native FSX, even when I had the sliders up to 60%. I especially enjoyed taking off from a military airport and seeing appropriate planes parked up and moving around.I have seen one or two oddities - traffic getting stacked up when holding short, and the foremost plane suddenly vanishing and the taxi animations can be a little clunky, with large airliners spinning on the spot to leave gates etc, but this may be more about FSX than My Traffic.Frame rate hit seems to be pretty negligible at my current settings, so overall I am pleased with my latest add-on.Cheers

Cheers!

It comes down to UT2 or MyTraffic 5.4 IMO.UT2 has real world schedules but lacks military AI.MTX 5.4 doesn't have real world schedules but has military AI and many more airlines (however obscure they may be).I find UT2 has slightly better looking models and I get better FPS.

You chose wisely.I did the WOAI thing back awhile and had fun until it wasn't fun anymore. I then bought MyTraffic Lite and was amazed. As you said, I caught the AI bug and went to My traffic 5.3 soon afterwards. This week I upgraded to 5.4 which is better than ever.See, another "Traffic Thread" was indeed helpful!Randall
