March 26, 201214 yr Decided to take the plunge.. I've seen and heard enough.. Anything to get me out of the painfully redundant cycle of "What's wrong with FSX today that will cause me to tweak and read event viewer more than actually fly?".. All I really want it is to be able to do long flights without fear the dreaded CTD or random freeze. Enough is enough.. March 26, 201214 yr welll, what no-one has made clear to me till today is:what has really improved in that way that is is better than FSX.I got the impression that everything what has been written sofar is, to increase and make prepar3d ready with all kind ofperifery round fsx like addons. and make a workeble but the problems we all have from time to time and bugs here and there, I have never noticed one improvement. Also (when I asked the forum of p3d) they show me the way to there site but all what they say is: you cannot compair because there is so much more!Still I am hesitate to step in.Why should I, the only reason is the future but that's far away(DX11).Is there anyone who could shine a better light over my statement. paula
March 26, 201214 yr From all my reading I need not need bit by bit developer comments of what changed.. It's clear they are developing this as a training tool and not some 1/2 baked software shoved in a box meant to move millions of units. After all, it's Lockheed Martin we're talking about. I got addicted to learning the art of proper navigation and all involved in it but FSX's general flakiness was seriously inhibiting me from `learning'. I doubt Lockheed wants a commercial user who is training someone on software that after an hour+ of flying and during something important like setting up their approach have the simulator `freeze' or `crash' for some random reason.. "Oh sorry about that student who is paying me tons of money to train them, let me go Google and re-read the one trillion fixes and tweaks that may or may not work". March 26, 201214 yr I has been said that the license fee will only cover dot versions, but if you wait till v2, will the $49 license fee still be there? I wonder.Bob Officially retired
March 26, 201214 yr Author I has been said that the license fee will only cover dot versions, but if you wait till v2, will the $49 license fee still be there? I wonder. Well not for v2. But, I would assume that the $49 price will remain for prior versions, i.e. 1.x versions or as you called them "dot versions. At the same time I don't know if I would pay $200 for the 2.x versions. May be, at or below $100 for Academic version ! And it remains to be seen what improvement or enhancements they have made in v2 to warrant a higher price tag.I know somene mentioned, v2 may come out maybe in a week or two, but does anybody have any specific info/link/announcement on when v2 may debue ?
March 26, 201214 yr For me, I would be a little disappointed if I bought the $49 version now, and find out later once the acclaimed v2 is released, you have to fork out $200. That is what is called a "gotcha". Many are waiting for v2, and I wish we knew what LM was planning price wise for this new version. They must have discussed it amongst themselves at this point in time.Bob Officially retired
March 26, 201214 yr Definitely FSX (for me). It still has potential taking into account all third party devs are still making addons for it, Regards,Stan
March 26, 201214 yr Hi,Well, for me it's P3D. I haven't used FSX in over six months, P3D is that much smoother on my system/setup. Since you have not purchased FSX as of yet, I'm sure you don't have any third party addons for FSX as well. This begs the question, why dump cash into FSX, if P3D is (at the very least) just as good (personally, I believe it's better) and is still in development?. Also, are you willing to pay for FSX addons only to purchase any additional cross-over licenses (required by some developers) if and/or when you make the move to P3D?.Your position of not owning FSX and/or any third party addons puts you in a unique position of starting with P3D from the get-go. You'll be able to purchase FSX addons that will work with P3D, as well as purchase any P3D addons without having to pay any FSX/P3D cross-over licensing fees in the future. What's a better deal, FSX or the Prepar3D Academic with an eye towards the future, assuming of course that one has never owned FSX ? March 26, 201214 yr V2 might be years away... Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
March 26, 201214 yr Hi,Don't believe everything you read. If a major revision was in fact due to be released in two weeks, why would L/M put out version 1.3 just a couple weeks prior to this major update?. I do not believe for a second that V2 is a couple weeks away, I believe its more like months away, many-many months away. I know somene mentioned, v2 may come out maybe in a week or two, but does anybody have any specific info/link/announcement on when v2 may debue ? March 26, 201214 yr Oh well, no way to know really. Geez, another decision to make. I get so tired of having to make decisions especially when I am tainted by my love for flight (not Ms flight) :Loser:Bob Officially retired
March 26, 201214 yr Hi Bob,I guess we could look at the bright side, at least we have options. :( Although Flight isn't one of them. Oh well, no way to know really. Geez, another decision to make. March 26, 201214 yr Hi Bob,I guess we could look at the bright side, at least we have options. :( Although Flight isn't one of them.Good point!Mike, it sounds like you are really enjoying P3D. I too may make the plunge but still pretty happy with FSX since I bought my 2600k and new v-card. I am tempted to do P3D, but to tell the truth, just about everything that gets released I am tempted LOL. So I must carefully choose what I buy or I will be sleeping on the couch if you know what I mean?RegardsBob Officially retired
March 26, 201214 yr Hi Bob,I hear ya, It took me a few months of pestering the wife before she allowed me to take over the garage to build a full scale 737NG cockpit. We should be moving to Florida within the next few months, the garage is mine. :( I just hope it doesn't take to long to get parts from Flight Deck Solutions, I'd like to have the sim up and running by the end of the year. I just hope I'm not inundated with P3D software/hardware compatibility issues So I must carefully choose what I buy or I will be sleeping on the couch if you know what I mean?RegardsBob Former Beta Tester - (for a few companies) - As well as provide Regional Voice Set Recordings Two: AMD-9950X | One: AMD-7950X3D | Three: Asus TUF 4090s | Three: 64GB DDR5 RAM 6000mhz | Three: Cosair 1300 P/S | Three: 990Pro 2TB NVME One: Eugenius ECS2512 - 2.5 GHz Switch | Three: Ice Giant Elite CPU Coolers | Three: 75" 4K UHDTVs | One: Boeing 737NG Flight Deck
