Launch to menu?

Featured Replies

Is it possible to configure P3D to launch to the airport or plane select menus rather than wasting time loading a default flight that I am never going to use!?Cheers.

Cheers!

This is not currently supported since they feel a menu is somewhat "gamey," but I do remember them saying they would consider something like it for future versions.

Thanks - I thought as much, but wanted to make sure!Seems a slightly odd stance to take - a menu is convenient and efficient regardless of worrying about which genre category the product is perceived as falling into. Just because something is a "commercial" or "educational product" it doesn't mean it can't be slick, functional and well presented.Especially for those with slower machines, having to wait to load a location and airplane you don't want and then having to change both in sequence is clumsy, frustrating and entirely unnecessary.Cheers(As an aside; is it possible to change the default flight that it loads?)

Cheers!

Remember that the main use for Prepar3D is in training simulators. Usually they start with the default flight, ready to be used. My best advice is for you to create a flight with your favorite aircraft and airport and use it as the default flight.

If you read their forums, somebody has sugested that this won't be done, as Zeus says, being put into myriad different scenarios and applications, having a UI would somehow detract from the end-users ability to "jump right into" a particular scenario. I can see both sides, but am using Zeus' suggestion (I like their saved flight dialog, too) Except that I'm not sure how jumping into a plane helps submarine drivers LOLbestjake

I wrote a small program to launch P3D, allowing you to choose any of your saved Flights, with a few other options."As P3D takes so long to start up on my system and invariably I need to reload a different scenery or time zone, I've written a small program that allows selection of a stored Flight, modifying time-of-day or season etc, saving the flight as a new name and launching P3D.I intend to add further tweaking options in future.Just unzip somewhere suitable and edit the P3DLaunch.ini file to point to your P3D install, the program name and the folder where your FLT files are stored. The example is for my install on Windows XPIts a Visual Basic 6 program, hopefully you will have any neccesary DLLs already, if not they can be downloaded from Microsoft.Editting most usefull for descriptions, season and date, though still pretty simple.Changing plane works but often the plane wont fire up (e.g. no fuel).YMMV."It can be downloaded from my website :http://members.multimania.co.uk/keithb77/Sadly you need a good ad-blocker to browse the website or just right click the first pop-up image and say 'block images from this address' or similar.Sorry , the direct link didn't work.A new website is in the works, but seems to be down right now :-(Cheerskeith

Not being able to get to the menu first is just not logical. There are so many things that one may wish to do before the flight. If there is a logical reason for not allowing this (which there is not), I would surely like to a least hear at an attempt to make it logical . Has LM posted a reason for not doing this? This is no brainer. Have I lost touch with sanity?Bob

This a great workaround.Be good to see what other options / features can be added in future releases dependent on what is possible.Great work & thanks Keith.

Can now be downloaded from http://www.keithb77.host-ed.me/ with no fear of clickies etc
