March 29, 201214 yr Author I have the Carenado C208 and I must say that it's not as great as I expected it to be.Hm, that is not good news. Any specific things you don't like?
March 29, 201214 yr Hm, that is not good news. Any specific things you don't like? The Carenado C208 is not a bad plane per se, but it is more complex than the aircraft Carenado had previously released and it seems that they cut a few corners with this one. Here are some points that I don't like about itthe initial flight dynamics were not that great. Thanks to Bernt Stolle, who has fixed that (update is available on the Carenado website) there are many switches in the cockpit that can be operated, but appear not to do anything on the other side, some essential switches cannot be operated at all. I'm thinking of the anti-icing that cannot be turned off some gauges appear to be permanently illuminated which doesn't look in a cold and dark cockpit at night the autopilot's vertical speed cannot be changed unless you disable 3D buttons in the VC and there is no 2D popup gauge changes to the plane model's options (such a disabling 3D buttons or adding/removing the cargo pod) are non permanent. They must be set for every flight the GPS is almost impossible to operate in the VC the views of the VC's GPS and its 2D popup are not synchronized for several times I've experienced a bug where the rudder didn't work and the slip indicator was frozen in the center (which could be resolved by reloading the flight however) and finally I would have expected a better manual None of these problems are real showstoppers, but the quirks add up. All in all, I had the feeling that I paid a little too much for this addon considering that other addons with more realism sell for roughly same price. If you really like the C208 and want to pay for a nice VC and exterior model, I suggest that you buy this addon at Flight1, where you have the ability to return it within 30 days if you don't like it. Regards, Tom
March 29, 201214 yr I won't say the NGX as you've already said you're not ready for airliners. If you're looking for smaller GA types then the best ones available at the moment are:Real Air Beech Duke (both piston and turbine versions).Mil Viz Cessna 310Aerosoft/Digital Aviation DA20If you like GA types with modern avionics then I highly recommend the Flight One Cessna 182T and Cessna Skycatcher. March 29, 201214 yr I have the Carenado C208 as well and it is a good one to have. Not as good as the 337 but still a good one.I got the Cargo expansion for it and prefer flying the DHL livery around Australia and New ZealandCheers Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
March 30, 201214 yr I know this topic is neither here nor there, but I'm kinda new to the whole flight sim scene so please forgive me.Which payware aircraft would say are the best in terms of graphics, realism and overall package?I have bought a couple of Carenado planes but it is kind of expensive to experiment too much :-)My favorite payware planes (for X-Plane):- X-Scenery Sequoia F.8L Falco- JRollon Take Command CRJ-200- Leading Edge Simulations Beechcraft Duchess- C74 Piper Seneca V- Felis Planes Yak-40 Happy flying ! :( Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -
March 30, 201214 yr Author My favorite payware planes (for X-Plane):Thanks for the advice everyone. I bought the Milviz Cessna 310 last night and initial impressions, I haven't flown it more than 2 minutes, is that graphically at least, the cockpit is somewhat inferior to the Carenado planes. Now, MdMax, you mention X-plane. I have that one too, got it two weeks ago in fact, but I find myself using the P3D program more. It seems to me that the world of X-plane 10 is rather devoid of add-ons, especially scenery... but I could be wrong. Is it possible to find an Orbx-quality like area scenery for X-plane 10 and a program like FSCaptain (wow, is that cool or what, btw) ?
March 30, 201214 yr Moderator Thanks for the advice everyone. I bought the Milviz Cessna 310 last night and initial impressions, I haven't flown it more than 2 minutes, is that graphically at least, the cockpit is somewhat inferior to the Carenado planes.Which of the three versions did you try out first? I am curious because the textures used in the virtual cockpit are extremely hi-resolution... Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
March 31, 201214 yr It seems to me that the world of X-plane 10 is rather devoid of add-ons, especially scenery... but I could be wrong.Where I live, there's no good scenery for FS. You'll not even recognize the landscape with default meshes and rivers. In X-Plane, I have a better mesh and roads and rivers, and I can also generate awesome add-on sceneries thanks to OpenStreetMap and OSM2XP.http://osm2xp.com/Soon you'll also find Smart Scenery Design:http://www.xht-labs.com/But sceneries are out of topic here. Yesterday I forgot to mention my favorite Carenado planes for X-Plane. The Mooney, the Saratoga, and the F33A Bonanza. Happy flying. :( Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -
June 23, 201213 yr I am a PMDG 737 fan but after getting ifly 737ng its a step further to real thing even smooth on my 2.0ghz system. I do not have the feature pack upgrade yet .
June 23, 201213 yr Hi! I haven't really tried many payware GA aircraft but I have the aerosoft Diamond Katana and fly it quite a lot in FsX. The flight dynamics are fine although like many Fs aircraft it seems a little too powerful compared to the real thing. I also have some freeware versions of it by Premier Aircraft Design and greatly enjoy them too. Sure the freeware versions may not be as polished or have the tiny details but I still find them just as much fun to fly. One thing I noticed about the Aerosoft Katana is that you have to have rudder pedals to steer it on the ground, even with autorudder on. I'm not sure if this is a bug. Many thanks, Pierre
