Chris: Cool. Let me know when you get them out, so I can couple them to my birds and let those out. I havent touched them in couple days, I had a disk fail on me (fortunately, it was only MBR that went, and one MFT instance... so I was able to restore fully) and re-discovered VFR with FTX PNW.

I liked the bump files overall, but the only thing I wasn't too crazy about was the

lines along the sides, below and above the windows. You might notice those when

up close, but from any real distance, you really don't see those. The sides of the

planes will appear to be pretty smooth, with no obvious lines along the windows.

Or at least judging from all the pictures I've taken of them..

After using your "spec" files on my SWA 700, I decided to tweak the paint again..

The spec files made it a bit lighter than previous, and I decided to darken it back

up just a tad. I decided not to use the bump files as they made the window lines

stand out too much to my liking. I imagine I could tweak those myself, but haven't

messed with em yet..

I ended up tweaking all the colors, including the red/orange/yellow..

I decided to mimic one that was say, about 5-7 years old. That also makes it

kind of match the slightly worn cockpit.

I think I must have done about 14 color tweaks on that thing since I got it..

I've got about five different flyable versions now, from old with faded lighter paint,

to almost new with darker less faded paint.. :|

But I'm fairly happy with my last variation.. I think it's pretty close to about as

good as I'm gonna get, having to juggle from the dark side to the light side of

the plane. I do like the shine from your spec files better than the original look,

which gave kind of a rougher orange peel look where the sun was hitting it.

They should look pretty smooth and glossy in the real world.

Anyway.. This is my latest horse that I'm flying as a Love Field cowboy..

"Capt Dave came up with that one.. " chortle..

The video quality is not the greatest, but you can get the basic idea.. It is 720p.

I thought it looked fairly convincing when flying over with the gear and flaps

down.. That's an angle I see them from in the real world a lot..

The basic paint job is still the PMDG version.. I just tweaked the colors a bit.

Mark, maybe you can move that topic to the repaint thread. This is for the enhancement pack 2 previews. And if you'll have a look at the OP you'll see that the bump files you have are being replaced soon. Have a look a the pics.

Peter, I'm going to send you a beta set of v2 for you preview sometime tomorrow. I'll send you a PM when it's done.

Chris Hicks

Well, actually it was kinda related to this thread.. Mainly the comments about the window lines,

which is why I ended up not using the first bump set after trying them a while.

But I can't tell from the images if they will look different in version 2 or not..

The window lines seemed a little strong in the first pack.. But.. Part of that could be due to me not

running that high a res.. It may be making them stick out a bit more than they do at higher

resolutions.

Ah, I gotcha. I'll be uploading a new WN 800 soon with the new set included if you're interested in having a look at them. The effects with v2 are very subtle. I had to really play with the sun angle and the position of the plane to catch the detail in the screen shots. In most instances, I can't see them at any distance.

Chris Hicks

When I was using them, it caused fairly distinct horizontal lines below and above the

windows.

It was like the ridge was a "sun catch" and it made it stick out more than it should.

I checked a few pictures, and also re-watched that HD delivery video to check,

and from any real distance from the plane, you really don't notice much in the way

of lines. The lines that were drawn onto the textures themselves seemed more

accurate as you could see them up close, but back off a ways, and you really don't

see them that much. But if you have shrunk em down a bit, maybe that will do the trick.

Bumping this thread?

Any chance of upgrading the 600?

The project is on hold very briefly, but I uploaded a Southwest 600 today that has the new bump maps included if you care to get them that way. Otherwise, the 600 will be included with the pack as soon as I can finish it up!

I've been wondering where you were at Christopher...... Can't wait to get the 800WL weathered textures! However, get some well deserved rest son!
