NGX Fantastic - (Not perfect)

Featured Replies

Firstly well done to the PMDG team for once again defying the laws of FSX and creating an absolutely superb product!

However I have spotted a few minor issues with the NGX that could well be problems my end, but none-the-less I'll mention them here, and maybe we can see corrections in an update further down the line.

1) When swapping power over from the APU to engine Generators and vice versa, all you can hear is the click from moving the switches. I'm used to a rather loud clunk from the real-world aircraft (albeit a 734) but I seem to remember the NG does this too.

2) When moving the trim, you don't hear the trim wheels moving until after a few seconds. So if you are just making small adjustments, you don't hear them moving at all, even though you see them moving.

3) I would like to see the option for manual throttle over-riding A/T on the CDU split into four options. At the moment you can overide all the time, not at all, or during ARM and HOLD modes. I would like the ARM and HOLD modes separate. The reason being, if you have it set, on T/O the auto throttle can't set power properly as it changes to what you're throttles are set to after HOLD mode is engaged. Yet if you disable it, and set it to Not Overide, then when on final approach, you cannot deselect the IAS HOLD, keeping the A/T engaged and able to move throttles manually. You can just switch off A/T arm switch, but then it is not armed in event of G/A.

Many thanks PMDG, and well done!

1) Nope, the NG doesn't do that.

2) FSX limitation, if I remember correctly.

he kinda right, but it's petty, this kind of things don't really matters.

Hi Daniel, thanks for the reply

Yes you're right, it doesn't really matter. But if you look at the detail PMDG put into their products, you could say that a lot of the things they model doesn't really matter. A lot of the switches and and controls on the audio selector panel are pointless within FSX, however they still model them.

And I would hope that PMDG would take my pettiness as a compliment and a testament to their hard work that this is all I could find to moan about!! :Nerd:

My wish:

Improved engine physics, although it might be just an FSX limitation, I've seen several differences in engine behaviour compared to the NGX.

1. The real engines are more responsive at small thrust changes

2. The real engines stabilize much quicker. If I insert 40% N1 I it spools up but takes ages to stabilize. It takes around 8 seconds for them to reach approximately 40% N1 but then they are still not 100% stabilized. I've seen in Youtube videos with EICAS view that it takes 8 seconds for the engines to reach 40% N1, but then they are stabilized 100% right after it, while in the NGX you still have to wait for the engines to stabilize properly.

Many people might not have noticed this, I'm probably too perceptive, LOL.

Any word from the PMDG regarding the original post?

Thanks

I thought the point of having a forum was to ask the team questions? I also read somewhere that Ryan tries to read every thread!

Too late for 3 to be put in the airplane and I don't believe the NG works like that in #1. 2 is not possible in fsx. PMDG is busy working on the 737ER's and mil variants, DC-6 and 777 and it's well beyond development to request new features. I'd suggest sending an email to them.

#1 doesn't happen on the NG according to our tech team pilots (real world NG drivers) - the plane is not 100% the same as a classic is.

#2 is an FSX limitation as others already said.

#3 I can ask about for SP2.

We matched the spool and stabilization times to videos our tech team pilots recorded for us in the real airplane. There's some variance in the spool time around the upper (90%+) end of the range that we couldn't get right due to FSX engine model limitations, but the initial spool up is as close as any addon has ever been to matching its real life counterpart on this.

Not sure what else I can say here - you keep saying this and I really do think you're wrong on it. I made a major point of making sure we got this right during development because I'd seen the videos and it initially didn't match.

Also, anyone looking for "perfect" here had better just go pay $20,000 to one of the schools and get their real life NG type rating - you aren't going to get perfection in a $70 video game, I'm sorry, that's just a fact.

It amazes me how people are still pointing out things they "think" are wrong based on what they have seen or heard on their latest NG ride as a passenger or they went for a quick peak on the flightdeck or based on a youtube video! Ryan you're right! This isn't perfect! But it's the best damn $70 (CHEAP!!!) that I've spend on anything that involves my training as a pilot. It's a VERY nice aid and training tool, and even the huge Level-D sims, albeit being very close to the real aircraft, are not perfect. But it's as close as you can get for ONLY $70!

You crack me up dude. I've been flying sims for more years than I care to mention. Blocky pixels, poor vga graphics, 16 bit colours, slideshow framerates, although AV8b harrier Jump jet was good. Who remembers SWOTL and looking at aircraft on the horizon and seeing litlle shapes of sq pixels vaguely looking like a plane.

You get the PMDG and then complain. lol :LMAO:
