PMDG Dash8 - whats the official word?

Featured Replies

I know theres lots of conjecture however can we pls get an official word on whats happening with this? I'm not expecting a release date but given it was introduced a while ago and I think briefly mentioned in RSR's presentation (I didn't watch it fully so don't know), it would be great to know what PMDG's view on this is ie. is it still in production or has it been shelved to make way for the 777 and 747v2?

I for one am more interested in the Dash8 than I am in the 777 or 747v2 (I like short hops), although I will buy these when released. Ryan/Rob/Vin??????

It's already been stated in the conference video, that the dash will be put on the back burner for now.

You could use the J41 for now if you don't have it. I got it recently and it's really good! (Not very surprising news given that PMDG made it, RSR is a real J41 pilot and the J41 has gotten quite a few gold awards iirc)

Thanks,

The official word is that unofficially there is no official word on whether anything is being officially done, unoficially that is as I am not PMDG staff.

sorry about the double post (since Avsim changed their web site thingy I've been having problems...meh).

okay so basically the unofficial official word = backburner? :( thats sad. Surely they would've done the Dash8 instead of the DC6.

I was dissapointed with status of the Dash as well, but I've learned to deal with it.

Honestly, I belive the delay in the project is probably because of PMDG's desire to get the free-turbine engine right in FSX....a tough proposition (ha ha sort of a pun there...)

FSX's 'turboprop' engine model is horridly far from how a real free turbine operates. No matter how hard one tries to work within the FSX model it really isn't close (sorry turbine Duke and Carenado C90 lovers). Majestic's Dash is the closest but the implementation is pretty complex. PMDG probably figured that rather then devote dev time at the expense of other projects to get the Dash right they would move ahead on what they already know.

My only beef is I wish they would have been honest about it earlier. There were a good deal of threads deleted on the matter, which is a bummer but whatever. In the end it took a conference Q with Rob to actual solicit any response on the matter. But it's their business so really I can't give them too much flak on the matter.

Keep doing what you guys do best gang, and if you want to move ahead with the Dash, let me and the community know. There's a group of us on here who I'm sure will be willing to give you guys a hand with anything.

Luckily, a Dash-8 (Q400) is development by Majestic Software.

The Q400 is nice, but it's role is a bit different than the older/smaller 1/2/300 variants. We can only hope Majestic will spiff up it's -300 after the Q400 release.

Yeah I would like to see the 200/300 and the Q400. I don't know who is gonna set the record for the longest development time the crj or the q400, but if it makes it that much better than I'm all for it.

This makes me sad, I would love to see a PMDG Dash 8, as I'm sure many others would. I think the PMDG variant would be more visually appealing than the Majestic, but who knows. The systems will probably be on par with PMDG level from what I hear.

Actually the majestic one looks very nice, also Samdim Design is doing the exterior model and it does look very good they do good work, the vc looks good too.

It promises to be good graphically and systems wise IMO

You're right, I just looked up http://www.simflight.com/2012/04/14/majestic-software-dash-8-q400-video/ and it looks very nice. Of course, it can't compare with an Abacus or Wilco. Maybe they will grace us with a Dash 8 as well.

I'm sure the Majestic one will be at least as advanced as anything PMDG have put out :)

Johan Pettersen

When it comes to free-turbine modelling the Majestic far exceeds what any developer has done. Give the freeware "Fanda Dash 8" a look. It's availible on avsim here. It's the precursor to the Majestic -300. This will give you a good taste of what you can expect from the future Q400.
