Can someone post what they changed (Settings) in their BIOS for their OC ing the i7-3550K including their voltage?

I am trying to see what I need to change including the voltage to get atleast 4.5Ghz

I tried the ASUS auto tool but it wouldn't go beyond 4.2Ghz

Here is my system

ASUS Z77 MB P8Z77-V

CPU = i7 3770K

Memory = G.SKILL Trident X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400

OK..I got it to 4.4Ghz CPU Voltage = 1.3v temp = 77-82C

Strange your auto-OC doesn't work, mine did for 4.7GHz w/HT on, no less. Probably just need to enable LLC at the highest level and bump up VCore another notch or two. Mine runs @ about 1.32V for 4.7GHz w/out HT, around 1.35-1.37 w/HT at the same speed.

Hi Techguy..What is LLC? And how do I enable it?

BTW..I think manual is better than Auto..I feel like I have some control

BTW..I have downloaded ZPU-Z, Real Temp and Prime-95.

Are there other things that I can download to test this stuff? that would be useful.

I see when I am not running anything, it throttles down to 16 multiplier (1.6Ghz.. Is this normal?

Right now, I am glad I got it to 4.4 I am dead tired.. After all the drama with my MB an all..Tsk Tsk.. Tomrrow I I'll try some more...Pushing it a tad more... I'd be in heaven if I can get it to 4.7Ghz

I think my cooler is coming in the way. I may have to upgrade the cooler perhaps.. The 212 Evo may not cut it. But the thought of opening everything up doesn't sound too enticing. I doubt if I can use the same backplate for other coolers.

Load Line Calibration. There should be a setting for it in the same area as the rest of your voltage options. You'll want to enable it. Check your manual to see what your options are and put it at the highest (or second highest) level.

These are the parameters I have. The first 5 screenshots.

The only thing I changed was... the voltage, the memory XMP and the core Rtio level to like 47 or something...By adjusting the core Ratio I can move the upper limit of the Ghz.

Where is the LLC?

I just got my new stuff up and running tonight (err, this morning?) i5 3570k, Asus Sabertooth Z77, Corsair H100. It's just running at default settings at the moment, but it looks promising. I'm seeing about 45c under load (P95 torture testing) which is quite impressive actually for stock clocks. I am about to pass out now, but I will be updating the bios in the morning and then taking a crack at overclocking :)

I had Vcore at 1.3 and at 4.6Ghz and it seems stable And yes..

I then upped the LLC, increased the vcore to 1.32 and at 4.7, It booted...but the Prime95 failed after a couple of minutes

So I settled at Vcore 1.31 and at 4.6Ghz, The temps are 78-83C. So unless I learn new things or hear alternate suggestions that I can try out, this is going to be my current settings.

I am not sure if FSX would stress the system (all cores) like the Prime95.

My first results are promising so far! The only settings I'm tweaking in the bios are the turbo ratio, and I selected the XMP profile for the RAM (DDR3-1600). I have the motherboard controlling all of the voltages for now. I have it at 4.4ghz and max temps are 70c with the H100 on the quietest setting, so I think I have some room to try for more! Prime95 is stable for 30 minutes so far. According to HWmonitor the CPU voltage is being set to ~1.32v by the motherboard.

For what it's worth these temps aren't even as high as my i7 950 @ 3.9ghz was seeing. Granted that was with a Corsair A70 air cooler, but with the H100 on silent I doubt it's all that different. It will be interesting to see what the temps do as I edge closer to 5.0ghz.

UPDATE: I'm up and running at 4.8ghz and running Prime95. So far so good - HWmonitor says ~1.38 CPU voltage and temps are holding at around 73c. edit - these are average core temps by the way. The single core max is a couple of degrees warmer.

4.6 and 1.31 sounds about right. I'd go with that.

1.38V and 73C isn't right for Ivy Bridge, unless you're running a version of Prime 95 that doesn't support AVX, in which case you may as well not even bother, FSX is likely to heat your system up more than that.

I don't know, I'm just using the latest version from the mersienne.org website. I'm installing FSX right now so I'll report back with what happens.

Still doesn't seem right... My temps in P95 are up to mid-90's @ 1.32V and 4.7GHz with an H100. Average mid-80's.

Do you have to run any particular settings in P95? I've always just done the default "torture test", maybe I'm supposed to be running something else?

That should be sufficient. Can you tell me what the version number of your Prime 95 is?

Sure, it says "27.7 build 2" in the Help -> About window.
