Ivy Bridge hits the streets--post your results here

Sure, it says "27.7 build 2" in the Help -> About window.

You've got the right version, what are you using to check temps? Ah, I see, HWMonitor. I'd suggest you try Core Temp.

OK. I am using RealTemp and HWMonitor for checking temps. Are those considered the best way to see temps?

I just got out of FSX with max settings @ KJFK with unlimited frames. According to RealTemp and HWmon the highest recorded temp on a single core was 72c.

edit: Thanks for the help by the way!

Yes. RealTemp is very accurate.

Real Temp is *not* accurate with Ivy Bridge. The fact that you're getting virtually the same reported temperatures in FSX as a stress-testing app should tell you something...

OK, so what should I be using then? If you're going to claim something like that at least say what SHOULD be used.

I was referring to SB systems. I don't have any experience with IB in general.

Cross check your temps with Asus AI Suite

OK, my temps were accurately reported by RealTemp. The issue was that I was not running the "Small FFT" test in Prime95, I was using the default Blend mode. Now my temps have shot up to 85-90c. I have to try manual voltage and see if I can lower it some and still keep it at 4.8ghz.

I did mention what to use:

What is more accurate? Asus AI Suite or RealTemp? They are different for me.

My mistake, I missed that.

No problem, I missed the part about which program you were using too!

It's a problem specific to reading temps with Ivy Bridge. Supposedly Asus has things figured out, with Core Temp being the next best thing.

I ran Asus AI, Core Temp, Real Temp, and Aida64. Asus consistently gave readings that were 20-30 degree's lower than any of the other programs. The other three programs all agreed with each other. Asus says to use AI suite, or Aida64 if you must have 3rd party monitoring, but it seems any 3rd party monitoring will do, and using the Asus AI Suite is a recipe to burn up your chip. I think that AI Suite is probably measuring where the chip has contact with the motherboard, not the internal temperature of each core.

4.6 and 1.31 sounds about right. I'd go with that.

Hi Techguy.. I ran into a new problem. It was working great. I installed FSX and then tried to load it and it gave me an error saying that video card does not support the program. I was using the MB video out and I had not even installed the vidio driver of the ASUS MB. So I turned off the PC and inserted a the GTX 560 and tried to boot the system up and it wouldn't boot. All I saw a was a red LED near the memory banks near the CPU and it wouldn't turn off and wouldn't post.. I removed the video card thinking that may be the cause... still same issue. I then tried removing the GSkill 2400 memory with a pair of DDR3 1600 memory and the same thing.. I tried everything to boot.. I disconnected almost everything except the SSD (OS) and the DVD writer and no go.

The thing is, ASUS Intel Z77 ATX DDR3 2400 LGA 1155 Motherboard P8Z77-V doesn't even have a MB speaker. No beeps of any kind at any time.. I thought that was odd too.

I then got RMAs for everything.... My Memory, My CPU and the MB. I am trying to RMA the PSU too. This long weekend I was planning for so long for this build is shot to hell! I just want to throw everything away and build a new PC.

The only issue still lingering on my mind is my ASUS z77 motherboard.. should I have gotten a higher end board?

I had even registered my Win 7 OS and the FSX. IF I change everything I wonder if I would have to buy a new OS licence!

Not been a good weekend so far. :)
