May 8, 201214 yr (unless you're willing to spend more in the hopes an i7 is a higher binned chip and will clock a bit higher). This was my exact reasoning for going for the 2700K. I didn't want to have to be lucky in the silicon lottery with a 2500K.
May 8, 201214 yr I'm looking down at my mainboard BIOs memory frequencies; i see 2800 MHz, 2933 MHz, 3000 MHz, 3200MHz. You old Sandy Bridge guys are long ago and far away. HLJAMES
May 8, 201214 yr 3200MHz. :shok: :shok: Would be willing to do some benching in FSX to see how the mem performance scales in FSX?
May 9, 201214 yr OK I ordered the following. MB = ASUS Intel Z77 ATX DDR3 2400 LGA 1155 Motherboard P8Z77-V" (Was planning to get the Sabertooth but someone said it may have some trouble with some coolers... so chickened out) Cooler = Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler (RR-212E-20PK-R2) HD will partition this for OS + some photoscenery = Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Internal Desktop Hard Drive Bulk/OEM - WD1002FAEX Video card (This is for my old PC...but plan to use it with this one until 685 or something similar come along) = EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Superclocked 2048 MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 2DVI/Mini-HDMI SLI Ready Graphics Card, 02G-P3-1469-KR SDD for FSX = SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC256B/WW 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Memory = G.SKILL Trident X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model F3-2400C10D-8GTX Case = HAF 932 Advanced (I already have this) Power = 850Watt (or it could be 950w) PC Power cooling (I already have this) Now...the CPU. CPU = none. I was really indecisive between 2700K and 3770K. But I was leaning towards the 3770K but when I tried to place the order, the 3770K was sold out both Amaxon and newegg... so I can continue my indecision for a while longer. May 9, 201214 yr Careful with that 1.65V RAM, I had horrible luck with the 1.65V 2000MHz Patriot RAM that's in this build now. Only stable settings were to over-volt and underclock and loosen timings - not cool. Swapping it out for some 1.5V 2133 MHz stuff from Team Xtreem.
May 9, 201214 yr Commercial Member Ordered my GTX680, should be here this Friday. The rather sad part is, no word on 3770K availability here. *Sigh* It'll be a week or so before I get my hands on one of those. Looking to push it to about 4.8 (CWH80 Cooler, so I should be good.) What's wrong with Trident X RAM? Aamir Thacker

Looking to push it to about 4.8 (CWH80 Cooler, so I should be good.) I *highly* reccomend staying away from Ivy Bridge if you plan to do any serious overclocking. Sending an IB to 4.8GHZ will send the temperatures well into the 90's. The 2700K is your best bet if you plan to OC around 4.5-4.8GHZ.

May 9, 201214 yr which is VERY doable with Ivy. It is more like 4.2-4.4 is 'doable' with Ivy. Any higher and you will have smoke coming out of the top of your computer from the intense heat generated by the new 3D transistors.

But that's why I'm buying it, to see how far I can push it. (Me thinks, anyway) Aamir Thacker

May 9, 201214 yr Commercial Member You are in for a big disappointment. Thanks for the heads up, but as I'm sure you know, clock speed isn't everything. Aamir Thacker
May 9, 201214 yr Thanks for the heads up, but as I'm sure you know, clock speed isn't everything. Clockspeed is the single most important factor when running FSX as far as I am concerned.
