Fast rig but poor results on FSMark11 Test

Thanks for the reply Howard. I was actually just trying to get my results up to where they should be with my system in regard to the fsmark11 test before I tried any other twearks. I am just so far away from the average on my system something is a miss...

All tests seem to run smooth that Word Not Allowed has mentioned. I just am unsure why I get such low frames during the FSMark11 test. averaging 27 doesn't match up to the performance sheet I saw for the FSMark11 Results. I am reluctant to do any tweaking since I feel that there is more of an underlying issue with my setup. Perhaps a bad driver or something. My 580 GPU is about at a 47 percent load on the test and my pc is a stable 4.8GHZ.

I am running the Asus Maxiums Gene/Gen 3 motherboard. Maybe thats the issue?? I don't know..

Regards,

Aaron

Are you using Nvidia Inspector at all. If so and you have set Vertical Sync to half it will limit the fps to 30 in full screen mode. Then again maybe you arent using NI.

Have you done a full BIOS reset and re-overclocked everything?

Hey Ben, I sure have but I think I am on to something. I need to run a few more tests the next few days. This is the first time I have installed a motherboard. I woke up today thinking I might have installed the GPU in the wrong PCI slot. Sure enough, I read up which one I should put the 580 using only one graphics card on my motherboard. It recommended the other PCI/e slot for the card since I am using one only. So I have reinstalled the GPU. Right now I was running 4.8GHZ and averaging 42-43 frames on the FSMark11 test. How do those fps sound to you?

43 FPS is much more normal for the type of system that you have. - Your issue was that you were installing the GTX580 into the PCIeX8 slot on your motherboard.

Essentially, this was causing a bottleneck between the GPU and CPU which in turn, slows down FSX.

That is exactly what I thought! I knew there was a bottleneck somewhere because it just didn't seem right for me to get such low frames per second. But now that I have it in that PCI 16 things appear more normal. I guess you learn something every day! I do appreciate everyone's help in this forum!

Also, one last check, are you running the Bufferpools=0 tweak? This can significantly improve FPS in high powered systems.

Hey Ben, I was running the fsmark11 test and comparing my results to others with similar systems. In the instructions on the benchmark test it says to run the cfg through bojotes tool on a clean sim and pc. So that put a reject threshold. I am going to tinker with my overclock to get the most efficient setting with my rig. Then I am going to clear the cfg and finish with kostas recommended setup. I am averaging 42-43 frames at 4.8 ghz on my 580. Which I guess is ok..would love to get it into the 46 range..

This is what you shoud have:

[bufferPools]

PoolSize=0

Not according to the instructions...it says to run my cfg through bojotes tool then run the test. According to his tool i have a reject threshold inserted in my cfg. But when i start tuning for flight i will usepools=o.

I just bought the EVGA Geforce GTX 580 and had a fresh install of fsx with no addons and wanted to run the FSMark11 Test. I went ahead and did, and my results are as follows

CPU: Intel [email protected] HT Off

Ram 4x2GB 1333Mhz (9-9-9-24-2T)

GPU EVGA Geforce GTX 580

SDD 128GB Gaming MLC Solid State

Test Frames Time Min Max Avg

2 10216 300000 23 40 34.053

3 10137 300000 22 41 33.790

4 10081 300000 22 40 33.603

I was comparing my results with simliar systems as posted on Word Not Allowed's Hardware setup for the FSMark11 Results and mine just don't seem to matchup with the hardware I have.

Does anyone have any ideas? I am averaging 33-34 with no addons or anything and followed the FSMark11 step by step. Cant imagine what performance is going to be like with REX and the NGX installed.

Chipset drivers have to be installed? It's been a while since I've built a machine but I know that was an important piece in the past.

Glad you sorted it out - I have currently little time to help around.

Just remember to start with untweaked FSX before you start applying my tweaks.

Sounds good Word Not Allowed. I know your busy and thanks for your hard work. I noticed we both run 4.8 and a gtx 580 and you average 46 or so in the fsxmark11. I am at 42-43. Any ideas what could possible bump me upmto your numbers? My ram 8gb 1600ddr3.
