May 4, 201214 yr Picked this up on this weeks sale for $20. Neat plane. Lots of character. Any way to get rid of the jaggy reflections in the water? Love the cockpit.
May 4, 201214 yr Often been tempted by this, but never enough to pay the $35 for it! Which sale? Cheers! Iain
May 4, 201214 yr Put out your swimmers in water!!! Guenter Steiner -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Betatester for: A2A, LORBY, FSR-Pillow Tester --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
May 4, 201214 yr First I was :Hypnotized: , then I thought what guenseli said. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PBY_Catalina_landing.jpg
May 4, 201214 yr I think the jaggy reflections could be a shader thingy. I'm using a different water setup through FSWC which doesn't even allow such a clear view like on your screen. But you are right, the clear clouds and jaggy plane don't really match. Water detail is at max 2x. Mind the lowered floats. :Peace: Wait, the other views allow a bit of a glimpse on the reflection detail. Mine is jaggy too.
May 9, 201214 yr Author Found this pic. Very pretty I thought. Edit: bah, realized not the same plane too late. Edited October 28, 201213 yr by firehawk44 Last image removed as it exceeded 1600W policy limits.
May 9, 201214 yr Often been tempted by this, but never enough to pay the $35 for it! Which sale? If you head over to www.pcaviator.com you can pick it up until the 19th for as little as under $20. You may still have time to get it for under $18 but you'll have to hurry as that offer is only valid up to midnight US EST. Hope this helps Rick Almeida
May 10, 201214 yr Author So I'm flying along and the engines quit in mid flight, how can I determine why they stopped? Is there a menu or page in FSX that tells you what happened to the plane besides CRASH and SPLASH?
May 10, 201214 yr I'd turn that FSX option off. It's acting too rough to learn something about the actual cause of the crash. The Catalina needs a close look on the carb temps, maybe you had trouble at that end. Just assuming.
May 10, 201214 yr It will have been caused by overheating (watch the cylinder head temps and mixture settings and note that an over-rich fuel mixture can actually assist in cooling, since before it ignites, it will actually briefly cool the cylinders a little, although you would probably get backfiring if doing that for too long in reality), or plug fouling (caused by not blowing the cylinders clean with a burst of throttle to burn oil off the plugs, typically if you descend with the throttles at idle, so you should occasionally use a burst of power to burn off the oil accumulation on the plugs), or shock damage (climbing or descending too quickly without allowing the engines to either heat up or cool down gently, so watch the engine temps and the OAT and moderate the engine settings to prevent rapid engine temp changes). So basically, you have to run the engines as you would on the real thing, i.e. by looking after them properly and treating them kindly. It's not quite as detailed on engine modeling as A2A, but it is not far off it, so if you fly it as you would an A2A AccuSim aircraft, you won't go far wrong. If you have the UIVER DC-2 and can fly that one okay, that is kind of the same in this respect too. Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
May 10, 201214 yr I picked this up in the sale and am loving it so far... However, I seem to have a problem where by one of my wings gets stuck in the water on a rocky taxi/take off or landing...and then stays stuck there until I build up to TO speed again and start to leave the water? Anyone else have this? Cheers! Iain
May 10, 201214 yr You do have the floats lowered, don't you? Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
May 10, 201214 yr You do have the floats lowered, don't you? Al With my track record this week ( see my B377 turbo snafu on the other thread) assume nothing! (runs off to check floats) Cheers! Iain
May 10, 201214 yr Al, as you are an expert on this particular aircraft, perhaps you can help me out? Tried to fire her up yesterday for the first time, from Darrington, went through the checklists and got those green ticks accordingly, but when I went to start the engines, got nothing. Zilch. Not even a splutter. So, where or what am I not doing correctly bearing in mind I got the green checklist ticks? Rick Almeida
