Hey guys, is there anyone who has the Aerosoft Catalina? If so, could you please post your FSCategories_XM file. I have a problem with the installation and for some reason this file appears to be corrupt. I would be eternally grateful. Perhaps you could PM me the file or add it as an attachment? Cheers...

Hi mate. Well to be honest I've just doscovered it's of not any great consequence unless I want to run missions, which I don't so... For your reference CoolP, it's actually in a folder called Categories which resides in the FSX main directory. But as I said, no sweat, unless you do find it and you can PM me the file, but no problem if not

Aerosoft made an update providing the missing files. It occurred with their version 1.20 installer that left out those files from an earlier installation version. You can probably get the update at wherever you purchased the Catalina.

I've just tried a reinstall of 1.20 and it seems that Lee is right. The installer fails on that one file. I've checked my aerosoft account and couldn't find any updates. Maybe a fresh download of the installer itself helps.

 

Ok I've just checked the installer's date and it wasn't changed, so maybe the fixed file can be found somewhere around the aerosoft forums.

The fixes are on their main page under updates. You have to log in and register your product, then the updates come up. If you are on Simmarket like I am, the updates appear there under the product downloads.

I still wonder why there are two separate systems at Aerosoft. One is the shop where I can get my installers (which is very nice), another one is the update system. Now the update system knows about some of my purchases automatically but others aren't there. So I had to manually add the Catalina (download version) like you've recommended to get to this listing.

 

 

Mission update

If the mission included with the PBY Catalatina X does not load (or crashes the simulator) unpack these files to the FSXMainFolder\Missions\Aerosoft Missions\Catalina Comox2 folder. Do not install this when you got no problems.

I did not see anything helping on Howard's (or my) missing file. Not that I care much, she works well and I don't run any missions. So I'm wondering just for the fun of it. My main installer already is 1.20, so I should have all those listed updates.

 

The Simmarket updates are handled better in my eyes. As you've said, they just show up with the shop installers (one login, one system) and you even get an email if there's something new.

Crazy isn't it? The file I got added to my Catalina downloads is called AS_PBY-CATALINAX_FSX_MISSON-FIX I installed from version 120, but still needed the 120 update and this fix.

Seems like the 1.20 installer works that way, yes. It's from February 2011. But it also seems like Lee described that the Simmarket customers see that missing file in their account. Maybe the Aerosoft ones do too and I'm stupid. She's worth the money either way, I've got her years back. You will love the sound. Can't say the neighbours will though.

From what I think to understand, the Catalina installer wants to edit that file (which is there after installing FSX), but it can't. No?

When done, the Catalina installer will find a very default file to edit. If it still complains, it's nuts.

If other addons requite entries there, you may have to check the backup and add them. Just be aware of that.

I bought this plane on the recent sale and also got the same error during install as the OP.

 

I do play and enjoy the missions so this is now a concern of mine.

 

What exactly gets "messed up" in missions when you have the Catalina installed?
