Cardiff released by UK Extreme

Featured Replies

Hi!

Looks like being a potentially expensive weekend again for FS9 scenery junkies!. In addition to Imagine Sim's VIDP, UK Extreme have just released Cardiff Airport EGFF for both FS9 and FSX. Although I am waiting to see some reviews on VIDP, I will have no hesitation in buying EGFF tomorrow morning even before any reviews appear, such is the quality of Gary's airport addons, which are setting the gold standard.

Windows XP Pro SP2; Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0Ghz CPU;

Arctic Cool 7Pro; ASUS P5N-E-SLI Motherboard;

4GB Corsair 800Mhz DDR2 RAM; 768MB nVidia GeForce 8800GTX Dual VGA Graphics card;

2x 500GB SATA 7200RPM Hard Drive; 650W (2 x 12V) PSU; 2 x 1000GB + 1 x 150GB Western Digital External Hard Drive;

CH Pro Yoke and Pedals

All helping to power 368GB of fs9!

(and much as though I hate to admit it - 182GB of FSX!)

UK2000 Cardiff is available now from Simmarket. Not yet up on the UK2000 website, which is odd. I will wait and purchase direct from Gary.

I thought that odd too but I was so keen that I went through Simmarket and, having paid for it, I was redirected to Gary's web page where I had to enter my UK2000 account password (not simmarket password) in order to download it.

Bill

It's now on Gary's site. Bought it, installed it, and on my way there now! :Peace:

Cheers, SLuggy

I do not have a signature. Why are you reading this?

I enjoy Gary's scenery too; however I shall wait for the usual update and AES support before I purchase. Not being wise... just skint at the moment. :Hypnotized:

Oh dear - looks like I was right! Drzewiecki Design have just released Polish Airports Vol.3 for FS9 (Poznan, Wrocklaw and Bydgoszcz) and they too IMO are up there in the top echelon of scenery designers. I am having to exercise significant self-control now to stop my credit card going into melttdown but I don't know how long it will last - this is one serious addiction! The only saving grace is that I haven't seen any feedback on VIDP yet so I am holdng off with that purchase.

Who would have ever thought a few years ago when it was predicted by many that addons for FS9 would virtually dry up, that us FS9'ers would still be faced with this (very pleasant!) dilemma in 2012?

Bill

The reason I am presently skint is that over the past month I have purchased:-

VirtualCol's Jetstream 32

FSInventions FS Instant Approach

BGD Kashgar

Latin VFR's LaPaz, Sucre, Cayman Islands, Trinidad, Tobago, Jamica (Kingston and Sangster)

TropicalSim's 8 South American Airports (Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo (both), Rio (both), Maceio and Salvador.

Boris Forero's Guayaquil

Skysoft's Shijiazhuang Zhengding

Thai Creation's Paro

Are we not blessed? I'll still be exploring the world through FS9 for many, many years yet.

I have bought 12 scenery addons and the Jetstream 32 in the last month and I thought I was bad! I am glad to see there are people out there who are even worse than me!

Great to see these new addons appearing - FS9 is going to be alive and kicking (and looking great) for many years yet.

Downloaded & installed yesterday. I've got several other UK2000 sceneries and the quality has always been impressive. But EGFF is my local airport, I've used it hundreds of times, and I haven't really been able to realise the accuracy & attention to RW detail in Gary's work before. Everything is exactly where it should be and beautifully rendered, right down to the the disability spaces in the short stay car park - which (given the airport's commercial troubles) is just as realistically shown as mostly empty. Also no obvious FPS hit, even on my elderly machine. If only the actual owners of it cared as much about managing the airport as Gary did in developing this! Very highly recommended.

Okay, it's time for someone to be honest here... We are addicts. Hopeless addicts. Time to get it out there guys. First it started with an occasional AFCAD, and then I started downloading freeware. Then LevelD and F1 and FSD and iFly and DreamFleet and all those other bright and shiney enticements. After that I discovered Aerosoft, FSDT and others and it's been downhill since then. Throw in a hangar full of aircraft I will never have time to really master (or even RTFM!) and utilities like FSC and AFX and ASV and GE Pro and the most addictive of all, REX and it's the gutter my friends.... My family have all left me, my dog won't speak to me and my rear end has fused to the seat in front of my computer... The only thing I can do besides flight simming is logging on to the forums and seeing what the dealers are offering on the streets for my latest fix... I'm doomed.... Okay, now I've got that off my chest I'm heading back to FS9 to fly somewhere wonderful in something awesome and leave the so called "real world" behind.... I may be a pathetic addict, but I'm happy as long as I'm getting my fix

Cheers mates!

That sums it up very neatly Ian - it starts with the freeware, then you buy a few select pieces of payware (promising yourself that once you have bought those, you will just use freeware to create the rest of your flightsim world), but then you give into the addiction and over time buy every reasonable looking payware addon available! Like you I have hangars full of aircraft - I even have an inactive hangar containing a couple of hundred of aircraft that I don't fly regularly or that don't fly particularly well or are poorly modeled but at least they are available to me if I should get an urge to fly a specific type! I have replaced payware airports with better looking payware versions of the same airport after these became available (something I also promised myself I would never do!) and bought airports for areas that I would almost never fly to, just in case I happen to some day!

I guess however that there are a lot worse addictions out there - at least that is what I say to my wife, although I don't think she always believes me!

Cheers,

Bill

at least that is what I say to my wife, although I don't think she always believes me!

Wives are the hardest part of that all! SmackBottom.gif

I hear you on that one Rafal. Maybe we could get a special site like the Bargain Hunters forum to try to find FS addicted women so we could marry them? Of course, we would never get around to actually meeting one another because neither of us would leave our computer long enough to actually connect. But perhaps we could get VATSIM to set up a special site where the potential wives and husbands could share the same sky? Nyah, it would never work. The women would always want to be the controllers!

LOL. Man, I hope my wife never joins AVSIM - I would be dead meat if she read this....

Cheers

Ian
