No Longer Initializing

Featured Replies

HI All -

Hoping someone can help....I have searched Google and tried searching this forum for anything similar but haven't found anything, so I apologize in advance if this has been addressed already -

I have had the PMDG 737 NGX for several months now and it has been working perfectly this whole time. When I tried a flight this morning, I ran into a major problem. Now, when I load a PMDG aircraft, it will not initialize at all. It loads the aircraft, but nothing happens. All of the gauges are blank, the gear handle is missing and the message that you normally see up top that it is initializing does not appear. I am setup to load into the LONG config, so this is not a cold-dark issue. I went ahead and completely uninstalled PMDG then reinstalled including the SP's. I also checked to make sure that the license service they talk about in the manual is running as well and it is, and I uninstalled any addons that are specific to the PMDG. I was just on this last night and made a full flight without any issues (ok, the landing was a little rough but not bad enough to lock me out of the cockpit!!) and I have made no updates to my computer since last night.

I did open a ticket, but in the hopes that this might be an easy fix I thought I would post here. Any help you guys can provide would be hugely helpful.

hmm this might sound dumb but did you accidently forget to right click -> run FSX as an administrator?

thats about all i can think of.

It almost sounds like you have some sort of file corruption issue that actually may be with FSX itself. This would be especially true if you did not change anything prior to it starting.

I'd say try reinstaling the 737...

Paul. Are you starting from free flight and then selecting your PMDG 737, or are you loading a saved flight?

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. Ryan from PMDG got back to me and they had the fix - when you uninstall the program, you need to go in and delete out the PMDG folder in the /AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX directory. I had reinstalled a couple times when troubleshooting but never got rid of the folder here. Once I did that and installed the base package everything came right up. So guess there was some corruption but this cleared it right up.

As a side note I couldn't be happier with the Support here. They got back to me within a few hours of opening my support ticket, and responded right away to my follow up email. I posted the problem here as well after opening the ticket because I figured it would be a few days before I heard anything....how wrong I was. Great support to an awesome product!!

Thanks again everyone.

Glad to hear you're flying again and thanks for posting your solution, because although i haven't had problems, i just did a fresh install myself and when looking at the 'Official clean install from scratch' method that Ryan posted some time ago (which i followed), there was no mention of folders within the FSX directory you refer to, only within the FSX 'Root' directory, so nice to know.

Strange. I cant find a PMDG folder on that path (/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX). In fact I cant find anything for PMDG other than saved flights on the C (operating system) drive.

The folder in question is

C:\Users\(Your Username)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\SimObjects\

You'll need to enable the Windows folder option "Show hidden files, folders and drives" to see it.

There should be folders for every plane you've flown in here - find the NGX ones and delete them - the files here can get corrupted (we don't understand how) and start overriding the tail number of the model - that causes the plane to fail to init because it can't find a matching options ini to load.

Thanks Ryan. I have added that to my notes on the NGX for future reference.

Hi Ryan

It did not work for me.

Ive tried a few saved flights and all load black gauges. Maybe I need to deactivate it and reactivate it again. It hasnt asked for a key for any of these reinstallations. Is there a way to force a deactivation so it asks for the keys again?

When I edit a post the edit is not saved by the forum.

The folders that Ive deleted only contain a state.cfg and no options .cfg??
