May 22, 201214 yr Hey guys, I was just curious as to if real world operators change the cruise speed of the NG. Now that question seems pretty vague, so let me use an example. When I fly the NGX, I use a Cost Index of 65 - which is a little high, but gas prices in the sim are much lower than that in the real world. With a higher CI, does my cruise speed increase too? My typical cruise speed right now is M.79 and I was wondering if that changes with CI, or if in real life operators of the NG go into the CRZ page and change the cruise speed to let's say M.81 or so - to get to their destination faster. Is it standard to leave it be at M.79? Thanks :) Cameron Caldwell CPL (A) King Air 200 Pilot
May 22, 201214 yr The standard Cost index for the likes of Ryanair is 80 There is something for you to work around Ryanair will usually fly to about 37000 ft to places like spain and corfu .. of course places like Germany are about 24000 ft below and ireland is about 15000 depends on weather and traffic/.
May 22, 201214 yr Your Mach will vary directly with you CI and directly with your headwind and probably other factors. It's not a fixed number. If you increase your CI for a given atmosphere, your Mach will increase. You can change it by manually in the FMC or MCP. Matt Cee
May 23, 201214 yr Author Okay thanks guys. What is the maximum cruise speed of the 737NG? Preferably in Mach lol :) Cameron Caldwell CPL (A) King Air 200 Pilot
May 23, 201214 yr Well when I fly on the -700 at FL 380/390 is at 0.78 with a MMO of .82, and a CI of 20. CL is .73 again with a MMO .82 service ceiling of 370. ;-) 737 CL/NG skysurfer
May 23, 201214 yr I think it is mach .82 but don't hold me for it, someone here probably has verified data Vladimir Levkov / Владимир Левков Two miles of road can take you two miles. Two miles of runway can take you anywhere in the world

May 23, 201214 yr Hehe Levkov just look above ;-) Just beat you by a minute. :-P Yeah, I realized that :) It was even less than a minute because I saw your post the same second I clicked post so you posted at 08:36:59 and me at 08:37:00. May 23, 201214 yr The standard Cost index for the likes of Ryanair is 80 Pretty sure the CI for Ryanair isn't 80, I think for the last few months its been 31 Robin
May 23, 201214 yr Author Anyone know what a typical WestJet CI would be? I'm Canadian so that's the airline I fly the NGX with :P Cameron Caldwell CPL (A) King Air 200 Pilot

May 23, 201214 yr That table contains a lot of garbage data. Generally higher cost indexes than what the airliners use. Most use a CI less than 10 these days. Johan Pettersen
