June 13, 201213 yr Being a former RADAR Guy, this seems no different to me then a RADAR facility that is not co-located with the facility area itself. But, I am sure some tower purists will not like this new idea. http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/10/3075097/saab-remote-air-traffic-control-tower-norway-trial John Binner, MCDST U.S. Dept Of Veteran Affairs, Senior IT Analyst OI&T, SPM, Clinical Imaging 2022 Build: Thermaltake Core X71 Full tower case, ASUS Prime X570-P Motherboard, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core CPU, ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon RX6900 XT GPU, G.SKILL Ripjaws 32GB DDR 3600 RAM, Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 850W 80+ Gold PSU, Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L Water Cooler
June 13, 201213 yr The technology looks good I like the whole AR aircraft tracking idea however I thnk taking the controllers away from the place they most need to be wont work. What happens if the hardware fails? Tim HeptinstallAirports I have been to: Doncaster Robin Hood Airport EGCN, East Midlands (EGNX), Manchester (EGCC), Tenerife South/Reina Sofia Airport (GCTS), Fuerteventura Airport (GCFV), New York John F Kennedy International Airport (KJFK)Aircraft I have travelled on: 737-800 (Thomson), 737-800WL (Thomson, Ryanair), 757-200 (Thomson, Thomas Cook), 757-200WL (Thomson, Thomas Cook, American Airlines), De Havilland Dragon Rapide (Classic Wings G-AIYR). June 13, 201213 yr Assuming we could get beyond the various failure risks and requirements for redundancy, let your mind wander into the areas of vision enhancement (infra red, low light, etc) and computer assisted ID. It doesn't take much to conjure up all sorts of advantages to assist these guys. The one thing I would not want to see is someone try to take something like this and use it to try to increase the already heavy burden that is presently placed on these guys. John

Yes, the video mentioned the possibility of having one controller working several airports. Potential for confusion there, I would have thought. I can see advantages in this though as long as it's totally foolproof (or as near as humanly possible).
June 14, 201213 yr This will mean that soon all of the United States Air Traffic Control can be outsourced to India.....Scary thought Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

June 14, 201213 yr In the UK, the majority of controllers (Area Controllers, Terminal Controllers, and Approach Controllers) work from radar screens and never see an aircraft. Only the Aerodrome Controllers ever see aircraft. Gerry Howard

June 14, 201213 yr Being a former RADAR Guy,.... Old RADAR Guys never die. They just fade away, as 1 over R to the fourth.

June 15, 201213 yr That is the same for nearly all radar controllers. That reinforces my point that the majority of controllers already rely on technology to do their jobs Gerry Howard
