PC AVIATOR - MEGASCENERY, any Good?

Featured Replies

I currently have all the UTX and GE Pro on my fs9 setup, is Megascenery worth it?

I love MegasceneryX SoCal...can't speak to the rest. I will say that MegasceneryEarth is, in my experience pretty awful...but that's not on the linked page.

A sweeping generalisationJust%20Kidding.gif ...if you fly heavies or jets its not the best. On the other hand if your tooling along at 120-140 kts eg GA aircraft, then OK.

IMHO the Megascenery stuff, most of which I own, isn't as good as that produced by FranceVFR (payware) nor even the freeware Blue Sky Scenery both, it must be admitted, are far newer tech.

Actually, their So Cal version is pretty nice. The green colors that they use are a bit out of place in L.A. (a little funky looking) but the rendition of both the Santa Monica and San Gabriel mountains are actually pretty realistic. They even threw in the radio antennas on top of Mt. Wilson.

You might consider using Active Sky when flying in the region as it has a tendency to mask the not-so-detailed scenery areas but all in all, it's pretty nice. The other thing to remember is to check for duplicate afcads in the SOCobjects folder...

Okay I bought the "Pacific Northwest" version and it looks amazing especially when I take off from FlyTampa Seattle. FS9 keeps amazing me with all these beautiful addons that run silky smooth on my system. Time to waste more $$$$ and make Mastercard very happy :LMAO:

Hmmm...I'd heard good things about Pacific Northwest. If you find some misplaced snow somewhere I hear there's a patch.

I have all of their FS9 sceneries and they are all good, though some are better than others. I strongly encourage a couple of adjustments to avoid "blurry" textures...

1. Do not install them in FS9. Instead, install them on the same hard-drive but in their own seperate folders. Here's a sample scenery.cfg entry - I have FS9 installed on a dedicated D drive...

[Area.047]

Title=megaScenery-NC-San Jose West-W

Layer=47

Active=TRUE

Required=FALSE

Local=D:\megaSceneryNC\SanJos_ww

Remote=

2. Make sure you run FS9 with Unlimited FPS selected. It may not be the best setting for normal sceneries, but for photo-real it will make a huge difference.

Enjoy!

ok thanks 4 the tip! :drinks: , no blurries.......it's all good.

Do these sceneries work well with Flight Zone PDX?

I'd think it would...just have to put PDX on top in your scenery library.

Thanks for the info.!

I own a bunch of Mega sceneries for FS9. I ended up removing them after awhile because of the blurries. If you are a low and slow flier, then Mega sceerny for FS9 is great. But if you do high and heavy flyer stick with GEX and UT.

FSX handles photo scenery alot better than FS9 as far as how tile loading.

PDX is outside the coverage area of Megascenery PNW but as you know,the FZ product has its own excellent extended scenery. So you can fly from PDX to SEA and your departure and arrival will be from very realistic sceneries and only mid-point will there be some stock scenery.

By following the guides I mentioned above, I seem to have eliminated blurries. The only time it happens now is if I forget to set the FPS to unlimited. Give it a try - you might be very pleased with the results. There is an Aerosoft or FSDT or Fly Tampa airport for all the Megascenery areas except Atlanta and Phoenix, so being able to use the surrounding photoscenery with these outstanding airports gives you a really immersive experience.

If you follow the tips Mega Scenery gives you, its a great experience.

PC Aviator had been running a deal-of-the-day special on these for $2.95 each over the past few weeks and I think i've got all of them now. The SoCal v2 + FSGlobal is AMAZING!

FlyTampa Seatle plus the PNW scenery is great; I was less impressed with the FT San Diego and the SoCal scenery. There are some corrections that need to be made for the airport altitude when using FSGlobal and I haven't gotten around to that yet; that led to some of my disappointment.

The imaginesim KATL plus Mega City Atlanta is great also. The 5th runway addition in the imaginesim scenery blends in perfectly with the photo scenery.
