July 4, 201213 yr By following the guides I mentioned above, I seem to have eliminated blurries. The only time it happens now is if I forget to set the FPS to unlimited. Give it a try - you might be very pleased with the results. There is an Aerosoft or FSDT or Fly Tampa airport for all the Megascenery areas except Atlanta and Phoenix, so being able to use the surrounding photoscenery with these outstanding airports gives you a really immersive experience. I did try the MegaScenery for FS9 again, I still get some blurries. However I use the Hawaii and the Denver and Dallas city sceneries and they work fine. July 5, 201213 yr By following the guides I mentioned above, I seem to have eliminated blurries. Ian, may I assume that you got this good result by disabling "extended terrain textures" in FS as the Megascenery manual suggests? I couldn't get a blurry-reduced result without doing so myself, even though it results in some blocky terrain transitions enroute. John G.

July 5, 201213 yr How do you do that? I have FSX. It's an in-game option under "Display" settings in FS9. I don't have FSX so I'm not sure what the equivalent setting is, sorry. If unchecked it reduces the distance at which textures are displayed, helping performance but also showing a pronounced texture "cross" at distances of around 20-30 miles from the aircraft. John G.
July 5, 201213 yr How do you do that? I have FSX. In FSX you should not have any problem with blurries. FSX loads the photo textures differently than FS9. More efficiently and faster. In FSX I have SoCal and NY areas of Mega scenery. I have PNW from Orbx also. When flying the heavies at faster speeds I get no blurries. July 5, 201213 yr What I've done is: 1. Set up the options as per the Megascenery instructions - terrain textures 20% etc. 2. Placed the sceneries outside FS9 which in turn is on its own dedicated drive and is NOT in "programs." As always, different systems give different results but since I did this, as long as my FPS is set to unlimited, I don't get blurries. Of course, now I've said this "in print" I'll have the blurries for weeks! LOL Or maybe it's because I celebrated Independence Day a bit too much and the blurries are all in my eyeballs! Cheers Ian

July 5, 201213 yr Hi I have all the MegaScenery and MegaCity series for FS9 and I would agree with the others who say they are very good for low and slow flying (basically VFR scenery viewing) but you may want to avoid MegaScenery New York as it is not of the same standard as California, PNW or Hawaii. The Northern and Southern California scenery was remade as V2 using better technology but they didn't do a remake of the NY scenery which is a shame. Hawaii and, I think, Washington as well as PNW were all made using the later technology. IMHO the Megascenery stuff, most of which I own, isn't as good as that produced by FranceVFR (payware) nor even the freeware Blue Sky Scenery both, it must be admitted, are far newer tech I would also agree that MegaScenery isn't anything like as good as France VFR, which IMHO has set the gold standard for scenery but France VFR include an incredible amount of autogen on top of what I assume is photoscenery and is amazing even when flying at very low levels. With MegaScenery on the other hand, you really need to be flying at around 4,000 feet or above for it to look it's best. If you want FS9 low level VFR flying at it's best, then try some France VFR products, but I warn you, you might become hooked on their quality which could become very expensive as there are quite a few areas available now covering a good proportion of France! Their latest FS9 release, Haute (Upper) Normandy VFR, is absolutely stunning in it's detail, although a lower end system may struggle slightly with the FPS when flying over the cities in something like a Carenado aircraft, such is the level of detail. I now buy France VFR scenery as soon as it is released without even waiting for any reviews such is it's consistent quality. Hopefully they will continue to develop for FS9. Bill

July 31, 201213 yr Mega Scenery X Hawaii, Reno, Las Vegas IS TERRIBLE!!! So blurry and just poor quality...that's why it's 50% off at all times on PCaviator. I like Pcaviator but they do a disservice to their customers by selling this. When I upgraded my computer I didn't even want to put this on my FSX again! Also, BTW Mega Scenery Earth IS EVEN WORSE! Bought East Bay California section 024. Looks just fair at about 20,000 AGL only because you can't see how bad it is. I love GEX and UTX! Don't ruin it with these terrible products. August 1, 201213 yr i don't know. screenies on their website look pretty crisp to me. You sure the machine you were using previously was capable of handling the photoscenery? I haven't tried the FSX versions, but I know in the FS9 versions you really have to follow their suggestions on settings to get the best possible results.
August 1, 201213 yr The Megascenery X Phoenix is good tho. They have the boxes on sale right now at Frys.com for $4.99 and comes with approach plates and Phoenix sectional map...the shipping/tax costs more than the scenery!

I'm running the FSX version of Las Vegas and it looks excellent, good colors and crisp as a whistle. Cant speak to the FS9 version of Las Vegas however or Reno and Hawaii. I've found SoCal, Phoenix, Vegas and Dallas of the MegaScenenery line to be excellent product, especially the night textures. In FS9 I run SoCal, Phoenix and Dallas and have found them to be very well done, just not as high res as the FSX version. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
