Advice on J41

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I'm hoping someone can provide me with some friendly advice on the PMDG J41. The NGX is the first PMDG aircraft I own and as everyone else, I am blown away with it. Off the back of this purchase I'd like to add another aircraft from PMDG to my hangar. I rather like the idea of a twin turbo prop plane and am wondering what the J41 is like on frames compared to the NGX. Also, although I've seen some videos, I am interested in hearing whether the quality of the VC is anywhere close to the NGX and also any other pointers that may be of help to me. Cheers ...

Hi,

Don't hesitate, there is no other pax turboprop that even comes close to it.

The RealAir Duke is also excellent, but as a/c types, they're not comparable.

The VC is spot on, and is fully functional with the exception of elements; for instance, the weather radar doesn't work, but I own the Captain Sim wx radar which I have inserted into the 'wx screen' portion of the J41's VC.

This a/c will make you work, but in a nice way; it's not to be taken lightly and needs to be understood as it has unique systems, otherwise you'll blow those engines. It's also a delight to hand fly, and often I will hand fly after takeoff and throughout the approach. It handles very sweetly!

It has an excellent loading feature done from within the VC (except for fuel), and it is highly detailed on the inside and out.

it's perfect for ORBX areas, made for it even, and there are loads of liveries available too.

Let us know how you get on!

Yes. The VC quality is quite good, in fact, the J41 is where they learned how to make the NGX VC such a nice place I think ;).

Further tips and pointers;

- Remember the start locks. It's only three little things; check prop angle before start, pull power levers into beta after engine start, pull power levers into beta during shutdown.

- Read the manual to get up to speed on the systems before wanting to do flights. It's a very unmanly thing to do according to some, haha :).

- Buy FS2Crew for it as well.... makes it at least partially realistic multi-crew compliant.

Make sure you walk through the tutorial. You can't just jump on the runway and throttle up. I don't have the NGX (yet) but I follow that forum cuz I know I' going to get it...especially after the quality of the J41. It's a whole nudder world. No autothrottle, start locks, overspeeds,...a whole new set of challenges. If you get it I'm looking for a bunch more of those photos :) .

Forgot to mention about frames; if you can handle the NGX, you should be fine with this, although it is a frame hog compared to other (simpler) designs. With my i7-950 OC'd to 4.0Ghz, I can get 30 FPS for the NGX and J41 around ORBX PNW (locked by NvidiaInspector).

Don't think of it as a light product, simply, it isn't. They're right to recommend reading the manual and complete the tutorial. It's a totally satisfying aircraft to learn and succeed on, as if you've accomplished something, same satisfaction (or more!) than the sublime NGX.

There is a graphical glitch to do with the VC; if you're affected by it, then switch the visual icing effects to the middle position (you'll still be able to see ice accruing on the external model).

We're waiting for those screenies!

Alright alright, here you go already :P. These might also help to show off the quality of the VC and aircraft in general .

Truly superb screenies - OK, OK, I'm sold, but, LOL, I already own the J41!

What a great a/c, it's a must have for the serious simmer.

WOW! Thanks fellas, you've all sold it to me! That VC looks absolutely gorgeous. I will definitely get me hands on it, but probably wait a couple of weeks before doing so... but then again, why wait B)

Haha, sorry if I turned it into a screenshot thread, just wanted to help you get off the fence about the aircraft ;-).

Yow! What FabioL said - DITTO! Don't apologise for posting those - they are spectacular! Thanks :)

When you get it, go into the aircraft.cfg and delete the two cabin views, that is views 16 and 17 (backup your cfg file first of course).

Because the passengers are ugly as hell and it's the only downside, if you get rid of the view of them - then this aircraft is just perfect :)

Can I ask you what livery that is in the last two screenshots???? Very intrigued....

And for Howard, trust me, no need to hesitate or wait, do it. It's beautiful.

Kyle

It's a home made livery based on some business jet I saw on airliners.net :P. I'll check to see if I still have it somewhere later today (working until 09:00 UTC).

J41 + orbx + rex = heaven.

Like you I also have the 737 but needed something lower to the ground to get immersion in clouds and scenery and the bonus is you can get fs2crew as well !

she is heavy on the frames more so the the 737
