July 12, 201213 yr Can anybody comment on the suitability of these charts ...........http://www.pooleys.com/prod_detail.cfm?product_id=452&PageNum_rs_product=1&product_category_id=14&product_sub_category_id=104 I've recently installed Horizons Gen-X scenery and VFR Airfields. My plan is to do a lot of UK cross country flying using VOR and visual navigation. Of course GPS assistance would be a bonus but Horizons VFR scenery removes the terrain feature in GPS which is a bit of a pain having spent so much money. I'm also open to other suggestions. July 12, 201213 yr The pooley guide is good but for navigation it is worth looking at http://www.skydemonlight.com/ as well. Also have a look at Plan-G ( http://www.tasoftware.co.uk/planG.htm ). Gerard Marley
July 13, 201213 yr Thanks for the HU on Skydemon. Not come across it before, have downloaded the 30 day trial. Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Of course GPS assistance would be a bonus but Horizons VFR scenery removes the terrain feature in GPS which is a bit of a pain having spent so much money. There is a part fix for this, (from Horizon's forum') removing the EXX and HPX files will bring it back but it appears the downside is you loose part of the coastline features. hav'nt tried it myself so make sure you back up the files. http://www.playhorizon.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=379 bob
July 13, 201213 yr Author I have just completed a VFR flight using Plan-G. Very impressive and will be even better once I get into the intricacies. I do have a couple of issues with it though. Firstly, because I used it on my second monitor I had to fly in windowed mode which hits my frame rates and degrades immersion a bit. Secondly, ( probably because of windowed mode) whenever I click the Plan-G window during flight FSX pauses which is a nuisance. Very impressive package though. Thanks for links to charts. July 15, 201213 yr @ Anthony 1968, deselect the "pause on task" field in FSX settings. This will stop the Sim from pausing when you bring up PLAN-G...the sound does still go though but the plane keeps flying. Have not been able to find a fix for the sound loss when using something else within the sim....someone else, perhaps? Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
July 15, 201213 yr Author Thanks for "pause on task", I'd actually forgotten about that. I'm loving this Plan-G now, definitely deserves a donation. I was able to terminate a flight plan and fly visually through terrain on approach to my airfield, all while watching "LIVE" on another screen. Lovely stuff. Anthony O'Brien
July 16, 201213 yr Broken GPS with Horizon Photo scenery...swings and roundabouts really...Just Flight did the same coverage without breaking it, not sure if it is still available. A bit OTT with the greens though, however, at least the terrain is visible within the GPS. Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
