July 13, 201213 yr Lol, well hopefully, you bought it directly from Natural Point - as they offer a 30 day money back satisfaction guarentee. Yeah, that part did make the decision easier. If I just don't like it, back it goes. What worries me us kind of liking it, keeping it, then just not using it after a bit. Of course if that happens, at least I'll have a purpose in any afterlife!
July 13, 201213 yr Well in my case, I can state I have been using the Track IR devices, since about 2003, maybe even little earlier, and I have yet to fire up a flight sim - that supports it - without it running. Don B
July 13, 201213 yr I am a recent user of Track IR5. I have been using it for about a month and find that I will not fly without it. It's that good! Yes, it takes a little getting used to, but there is a sharp learning curve. The roll nearly drove me crazy until I happened onto a long discertation of how to set up profiles which I have condensed into the paragraph above. The main thing I learned was to disable roll. I hope you enjoy your new flying experience Kengi. It will definitely be a "new" experience - hopefully a good one for you! John Wingold
July 13, 201213 yr I got my TrackIR about 2 weeks ago. I love it. In the beginning i thought ".. hmmmm..ok....." Now i wont fly without it. It feels so natural, and it gives you more freedom. But disable roll? Haven't tried that yet, roll seems ok to me. But i'll give it a try next time. Mark
July 13, 201213 yr Author Ok, up and running just fine, love it. It really makes a difference. Just what I remember from my long ago C-150 and C-172 time. FLIGHT now REALLY has that feel of freedom to fly, bank sharply and have some idea of what is on the other side of the turn. It does not help that I am also getting used to my new Cambat rudder pedals and toe brakes at the same time. They work much better after disableing the rudder twist function of my joy stick. I still find myself twisting it. Both the trackir and the rudder pedals were a big help in getting gold with the McGrath ski landing challenge today. McGrath is a really neat field and very detailed. I had to take the Maule back and check it out further. Thanks again to everyone for their help and encouragement. Kengi, it will make a world of difference. I am not fond of wearing a hat to fly but guess I will get used to it.

Congrats, you should get many years of enjoyment out of it - enjoy the new toys!! I am loving my Saitek Combat Pedals as well! I really like being able to use a little individual toe brake to help out on those cross wind takeoffs in the Maule, which there seem to be many of in Alaska. Don B
July 14, 201213 yr Have fun with it Air1, glad to see you got it figured out. I have assigned a button on my joystick to use the TrackIR 'Center' function. Because if you sit differently, or you move the TrackIR cam, you really need to re-center. I can definitely advice you to have a button in reach assigned for re-centering. To all: Is Disabling roll a common used setting? Mark
July 14, 201213 yr To all: Is Disabling roll a common used setting? I have always left it enabled, does not bother me. Don B

July 14, 201213 yr To all: Is Disabling roll a common used setting? I keep Roll turned on, along with everything else. If I tilt my head, I expect my view to tilt.
July 14, 201213 yr I have assigned a button on my joystick to use the TrackIR 'Center' function. Because if you sit differently, or you move the TrackIR cam, you really need to re-center. Center and Pause are two functions I like to have mapped to a joystick button. I myself will use pause more than center, I find the Track IR implentation in Flight to be really good and I do not need to recenter near as much as I did in say FSX. If I find myself needing to move my head out of range, like take a drink or light up a smoke < yegads>, I will pause Track IR for a few and then unpause when I am ready to resume my normal looking around. In fact, I only find myself usually recentering in Flight at the first start of the flight, namely to get the distance set appropriately for where I am sitting. Don B

TrackIR videos recommend using the - and + key on the number pad, since they are almost never used by any Sim function and are easily reached, even when not looking at the keyboard. I use the - key for centering and the larger plus key for freeze.
July 14, 201213 yr I have mine mapped to the up and down arrow keys. I use those for micro trim adjustments.
