July 13, 201213 yr A while back there were lots of posts and information on trackir, how do I find them again now that I really need them. Got it set up and running but there does not seem to be a lot of information. I can look up ok and look right and left ok but when I look down the view shifts suddenly to the low right to the point you can see the tail of the aircraft instead of the floor. I have played around with different settings to no avail. software version 5.1.3 final speed 1 smooth 10
July 13, 201213 yr Take a look at this, scroll down to the video where it says trackIR5 in FSX, I use the exact method to set it up. With regard to the angle shifting to the tail. You must make sure the 3 green dots are centre in the trackIR configuration software. July 13, 201213 yr When you move your head up and down, looking at the Camera view, you will see that if the 3 green dots are balanced equally above and below the horizontal line , you won't get the problem you are experiencing. Your camera needs to be tweaked as far as the aiming of it, and a tiny movement will make a big difference.
July 13, 201213 yr Yeah, it could be a camera angle or position issue. Make sure it's pointed straight at your face, directly in front of you, and far enough back that your movements don't take you out of it's field of view. Alternately, make sure one of your reflectors isn't bent out of position (or that your hat isn't on crooked). And if you got the headset-mounted tracking device, try it. That would rule out any problems with the part of the rig you wear.
July 13, 201213 yr Centering the camera properly while viewing the three green dots is crucial, even just a small amount of adjustment on the camera position can throw that off and cause the tracking to lose view when moving one's head. Don B
July 13, 201213 yr You might need to set up your own profile. There are several sets of instructions (Google them) for setting up your profile, but you need to adjust your settings to suit yourself. Yes, start by making sure that the three dots (in my case, more like an oval - ir5) are centered. Then under profiles hit the + to name your own new profile. In the row of adjustments, click off all except one at a time and make sure the window below that like shows the one that you are adjusting. In my case, uncheck the "mirror" setting and then adjust the lines on either side of center until you get that setting the way you want it. Do all, one at a time - yaw, pitch, x, y, and z. You will notice I left out "roll". I leave this unchecked for my setting. When finished, check all the above, except roll. Go back up the page a little and click the save button. Then go to the tab that lists the games and change the profile used for your game to your new profile. Why do I leave "roll" unchecked? It just seems to confuse all the other settings. This is quick and dirty, and requires many back and forths, but it works for me. Hope it works for you as well. John Wingold
July 13, 201213 yr Author Thanks eveyone, that will help. On problem is this is a 25" screen and I can't face the camara stright on as it is a little high. I have to tip it down a bit. Might be a factor also. I am sitting 2.5 feet from the screen. might have to move it back some. Thanks again.

July 13, 201213 yr Your head mounted sensor should be at the same height as the camera. If too low, try putting a book or something in your chair and re-center and try it again until you get it right. On the hat mount, if one of the three sensors loses it's connection with the camera, the image will go wild. John Wingold
July 13, 201213 yr I was getting a problem with erratic response (view jumping to strange positions when I had hardly moved my head). Messed with the software for an hour. Green dots centered perfectly. Still no good. Finally, I looked over at my desk lamp, shut it off, and I haven't had a problem since (as long as I remember to shut that lamp off when I fly). Sometimes it's the little things...
July 13, 201213 yr Ah, yes... lamps in the field of view, sun shining in a window... things like that can also cause problems.
July 13, 201213 yr Yes indeed light sources can easily interfere with the camera tracking - you can also increase the light filtering in the track ir software which helps that a little as well - best though to eliminate the light source that is causing the interference. Don B
July 13, 201213 yr Two tips if you are using the Track Clip Pro (bit surprised no one asked about that yet ): 1. If you use the Track Clip Pro, make sure you select that as the tracking device in the TrackIR software! The program defaults to the older method (TrackClip without the Pro) with dots on a hat. So under Tracking Target make sure you selected the right option. 2. Do not place the Track IR device right in front of YOU but right in front of the Track Clip Pro! I wear my Clip at the left of my headphone so my Track IR device is on the left of my monitor: right in front of the clip.
July 13, 201213 yr Great timing on all this setup advice. I should be receiving my TrackIR early next week. I would never have even considered buying it except for this forum, which implies at least two things. First, the community deserves a kickback from sales. Second, if this ends up in my closet after two weeks never to be used again, I'll haunt everyone one of your computer systems after I die causing mysterious random crashes and graphics glitches whenever you are in a sim. Just so you know...

Lol, well hopefully, you bought it directly from Natural Point - as they offer a 30 day money back satisfaction guarentee. But in all seriousness, while there are a few that have tried it and decided it was not for them, they are few and far between, most folks that get one and start using it in their flight sims love the device.
