July 17, 201213 yr Author I've seen advice to increase the contrast on one's monitor, and to zoom the text on one's screen... this to read posts that were previously unobscured and perfectly readable without the watermarks? You don't have to do anything.
July 17, 201213 yr I understand the point of the Test... mine was a more general inquiry, what's the point of the watermarks? I've seen advice to increase the contrast on one's monitor, and to zoom the text on one's screen... this to read posts that were previously unobscured and perfectly readable without the watermarks? I was talking to Mad Dog who mentioned his eyesight is deteriorating. Just thought he might not be aware of the zoom in feature of browsers. Having a watermark that doesn't interfere with the text, would for example make it a lot easier to spot members of staff on the forum who have AVSIM as their watermark. Also if any Payware developers use their company logo (for example) as a watermark that would make it much easier to spot them, their posts and what company they're from as well. Same goes for members of VAs and any other FS groups, etc... Real world pilots could too use some type of watermark to distinguish them from other members, that would make it much easier to be aware of who's a real world pilot if you want to ask them something about real world aviation or just want their opinion. In the end it would give another feature for members to play with. But if its not wanted we're not introducing it.
July 17, 201213 yr Author But if its not wanted we're not introducing it. Let me qualify that... If it is not wanted by more than a handful of users we'll consider not implementing it. If most don't care or in fact like the new feature, we'll bring it online for everyone to use.

Hello Momtchil, Thank for the concern, but I am not quite at that stage yet Having a watermark that doesn't interfere with the text, would for example make it a lot easier to spot members of staff on the forum Honestly mate, the red flash is a dead givaway,
July 17, 201213 yr Author Honestly mate, the red flash is a dead givaway, I have to admit that I wondered about that one too... And, it caused me to wonder who's eyesight he was talking about... :Nerd:
July 18, 201213 yr Hello Momtchil, Thank for the concern, but I am not quite at that stage yet Glad to hear that! Honestly mate, the red flash is a dead givaway, I have to admit that I wondered about that one too... And, it caused me to wonder who's eyesight he was talking about... :Nerd: Heh - I don't even look at that red staff mark - its all the way in the corner  - so used to seeing it on my own posts that I forgot all about it! Oh yeah, and the watermark would be like a back up for anyone who by pure chance missed the red staff flash - it could happen you know, distracted and reading the forums (possibly on a mobile device and on the go) with just barely paying attention and 'bam', misses seeing the AVSIM staff red flash in the corner, but then sees the staff watermark and all is ok................. It will be like a back up system on an aircraft - Safety engineering!........... yup, safety redundancy in the form of a duplication of an important graphical component of the forum............................ I was just thinking of potential uses for a watermark from the top of my head. and the other reasons were pretty good right? :p0310:
July 19, 201213 yr I think the watermark-image is a neat feature, although I think it should maybe be limited to a bank of images. What you guys have here is a good example. Something well defined on a white background, and aviation related. A couple of aircraft types and liveries like you have demonstrated here. Of course I'm sure people could make requests for additional images. It could make some things kinda funky-looking if the watermark image didn't have the white backround...that's all i'm worried about. Patrick Houghton
July 19, 201213 yr I presume that any watermark will have limited dimensions. On my screen I have no problem at all discerning the text. But if a watermark was allowed to be too large it could be distracting and take up space just as "computer specs" did!
