Dx10 Antialiasing

Featured Replies

I still use a GTX 480, and it's just 4x MS. I've found that anything over 4x MS is overkill when using the 4x Sparse Grid SS, as I cannot tell the difference between 4x, 8x, 16x with that level of super sampling.

I've also never tried to go over 4x MS in DX10, only when using DX9. It may be a limitation. I've attached a screenshot of my Inspector settings just in case anyone wanted them.

Your Nvidia Inspector settings worked a treat for me in FsX Dx10 preview mode!

Many thanks,

Roger.

One improvement for me over pmanhart's Nvidia Inspector settings with my GF460GTX is to change:

Vertical Sync Tear Control Adaptive

to

Vertical Sync Tear Control standard

There is less tearing.

I absolutely cannot get AA working in DX10 mode. What am I missing?

Using Philips' settings above, I still get horrible jaggies. My feeling is AA is impossible in preview mode, and most of you guys are just using FSX's built-in AA settings.

Maybe its a GTX560Ti thing cause I had problems too and here is my solution.

Are you disabling FSX's AA. The anti aliasing checked in FSX? Nother thing. Does you plash screen aircraft have good IQ, no jaggies? If not the external enhancer is doing nouthing.

Thank you sir. I'll try that later tomorrow.

Yeah, that's the issue. Inspector is having no effect.

Zach - would you post a pic of your Inspector settings, please?

Thanks

I also am seeing no AA in my preview screen and the outside view of the aircraft are pretty rough around the edges. I am however seeing acceptable AA inside the cockpit. No idea how that works.

Looking forward to a solution, but the performance/smoothness with this AA or not is a winner. It would just be nice to have it look great also.

I think AA with the spinning aircraft is also dependent upon the Inspector setting, as I too, have experienced this, and still do so from time to time. I have not followed it as a problem, however, and so to find a 'solution; I would ask all who have AA issues to post their Inspector settings, as when using Mike Kraczyk's settings, along with water at 5 (2.x medium) - there are no AA jaggies anywhere - internally, aircraft shadows or ground shadows. 4xSGSS and water at 5 kills the black shimmering in water scenery.

Hello Paul,

I'm at the office right now so can't deliver on the screenshot. In the meantime, my AA settings were set up precisely as Philip had them in the post above. No compatibility mode, no anything extra.

Hi Zach; Here's my test shots, using Phillip's Inspector settings for each of the screenshots:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/s86a0sfw0b53lwe/XMKSF_ZlO_

The first shot (41-442) is with AF and AA enabled within the sim:

The second shot (17-957) is with AF only enabled within the sim.

The spinning aircraft was not affected.

My question would be - Do you have AA enabled within the sim? If you do - then I have no good answer! Phillip's settings, otherwise, do work just fine.

I hope this helps,

pj

Thanks Paul,

Your results are basically what I'm experiencing. Would you say Nvidia Inspector settings have no affect on visual quality, but rather the only real apparent changes are when enabling/disabling FSX level AA? In other words, high quality AA within DX10 preview is impossible?

I unfortunately cannot get used to the lost sharpness. This is especially apparent on runway edges, paint, and tree shimmering.

Finally, I managed to screw up my shader cache to a point the sim is unusable. In stead of fixing what I have, I've decided on a complete re-install of FSX this afternoon to give myself something to do on a slow, homework-less day.

I would say that's a fair assumption, Zach, though I don't know about impossible - no-one could have predicted Bojote's impact on FSX - as with Steve's impact here, so who knows what may come next!!

Shimmering I got rid of with 5x water and 8xSGSS - maybe 4SGSS and 4xMS.. but one has to have AA on in FSX as well as these Inspector changes, and yes - i would agree that there is a subtle loss of sharpness, DX10 to DX9 - BUT the big change for myself and many others is when BP=1, with an RT, FFTF=.1 or so, TBM=120, MAX_ASYNC_BATCHING_JOBS=3 - then one manage much heavier scenery, weather and traffic settings - balanced, of course - than one ever did when using DX9.

The sim "feels" smoother, better water, I think better general color or contrast? That important 29 - 30 fps is also v- e-e e-r-y constant, not at all how it was with DX9. I have posted hundreds of consecutive screenshots within this forum, in and around the heaviest areas of Vancouver, Seattle and Renton - along with the settings used - both GA VFR flights and Commercial Carrier flights.. (All Orbx PNW)

The ability to run weather, the Maddog, (FT mod'd) KSEA, 35% and above (MTX5.4a) AI with 15 - 20% road AND airport tugs, etc.. with no reduced scenery compensation.... DX10 has 9 all beaten to heck.

Honestly, Zach - I'm not too concerned about perceived lost sharpness, coming up through the various earlier mks of FS, as I - perhaps yourself, too, have - FS9 wasn't a patch on FSX, and we were all just as happy/unhappy with that offerong, as we are with FSX today. DX10 is a new and better experience in many respects - and I expect that the remaining flaws may well get "fixed" or explained at least by Steve, and if not, then most of us, perhaps not all, will accept them.

Life is Good!

Thank you, Paul. You're the resident DX10 expert, and I appreciate your input and time. DX10 may not be my bag, but I'm glad you and others are making it feasible for interested users. I do wish I had some of those neat features in DX9...
