Massive TCAS aircraft showing up when below 2k feet

Featured Replies

Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. I think I've figured it out. I was flying into Ontario CA airport yesterday. As soon as I got to around 2000ft about 40 AI showed up on the TCAS. Looking at other software I use to show AI I only seen about 10. I THINK the 737NGX's TCAS is picking up marine traffic when below 2000ft and in an area that has them. Anyone else see this happening?

If I remember correctly there is an option to show all traffic or not in the FMC, remove it if selected and you will solve.

I'm curious. Were you flying into Ontario, California? Ontario, Calif. is about 40 miles from the ocean and any significant marine traffic.

I don't think i've seen it with the NGX, but I definitely see a whole swath ot TCAS indications near the ground when using other addon aircraft. Picking up cars and such. You really shouldn't see other aircraft either who are parked on the ground as they typically arn't squawking mode a or c....which is what's required for a TCAS system to interpret aircraft position.

I have a kind of opposite problem, if I leave my flight paused for a while when I resume the flight my TCAS stops showing traffic icons on the ND even if I can clearly see the traffic outside my window and have it configured properly. Not sure if it will still give me TA or RA because I haven't got that close to them in this situation yet. The TCAS test still throws back a pass and no failures appear in the PMDG failures menu, the next fresh flight it returns to normal unless I pause for a extended time again.

I've had that happen too. It seems to be showing every parked aircraft at the airport on the tcas. its annoying!
