Nvidia 670

Featured Replies

I have a GTX670 in my I7-3770K system and run Flight at max on everything. Smooth as silk with no slow downs or stutters anywhere including Honolulu and Anchorage. FSX also showed a marked improvement overall also.

Thank you.

Well, it's your money so it's easy for me to spend it! :-)

But seriously, my first concern would be the i7 920 you're running. It's the processor I'm running as well, and as I think about graphics card updates from my aging AMD card, the first thing I think is that my proc may no longer be a good match for the latest GPUs.

I have a new Dell with an I5 Processor. I just replaced the optional graphics card I got with the computer, because it was incapable of running a new World of Subways London sim. I was getting about 8 frames per second and it was unplayable. On Flight, my FPS with the original AMD card was between 25 at Anchorage up to 45 in other areas. I purchased a EVGA GeForce GTX550TI this past weekend. Now the World of Subways is getting pretty much a steady 60FPS ( that's right, sixty) , and this is with all the settings maxed. In Flight, I am averaging in the mid 40's with everything set to max.

The card cost me $129. I can't see that spending more on a card would equate to me seeing anything better on the screen. The processor activity shows that it is running around 40% so I doubt if getting an I7 or something better would do anything except lower my bank balance.

does your MOBO have pci 3.0? if you only have 2.0, you'll still beable to run that card, but it won't be at those speeds, it'd be at like 66% of those speeds, unless somethings changed from pcie2 to 3

I don't believe in tech demo's. They aren't actual games. What you see in those demo's you will never see in an actual game, at least not until a few years later.

I own a GTX580 (a previous flagship) and wonder how much Flight would benefit from a new card. I have a i5 2500K running at 4.5 Ghz. If I turn Scenery density to Max I clearly notice a drop in performance: Flight just isn't that smooth anymore. I wonder if a 670 would suddenly give me smoothness all over the place... I've had some more flagship GPU's and I never was utterly impressed... It never gave me the giant leap forward I was promised by the ads.

4.5ghz and a 580.... you have other issues if flight is not running smooth.

i run a 570 , 3.0ghz i7 920oc'd, 12gb ddr3 trip channel, and have never had a problem with stuttering what so ever. a 670 wouldn't be a huge upgrade from a 580, and only a small upgrade from a 570. assuming you tune out your machine, you should get a 7X series next year.

also, do you guys even run benchmark tests? like future mark/3dmark11? i dont have 3dmark12 because i haven't upgraded anything for over a year now. but they can give you clues as to the weakest point of your system. and they' make the absolute best systems on the market look like trash sometimes, and tell you why.

also compares your results with other people and the same systems. or similar.

I'm a couple generations back and overdue for an upgrade, but I'm waiting to see the release of the 660 cards and see how prices settle after that.

I'm not a teckie person, so I have a graphic card question.

I currently have a Nvidia GeForce GT220 in my Dell computer. Flight and x-plane both run smooth.

My question is: Would I see a difference if I went to something like a GTX560 Ti?

I only have a 360 watt power supply so I'd guess I'd need to beef that up also.

Any thoughts?

I have a whole suite of benchmark programs, Including 3DMark, though they are not the leader that they once were.....

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Would love to know what resolutions you are running at. Also what monitor setup you use.

I'm running @ 1920 x 1050 24 in, panel. Have 4 panel but only using one.

Have a 470 oc, 7950 @ clock 1gig memory speed 5.5 gig , and 670 980 mhz memory speed 6 gig.

The 670 runs smooth everything on top settings. Nvidia optimizes it drives for smoothness.

The 7950 runs fast great speed my top card, Hardware wise beats 670 @ its OC speed of 1gig. But not smooth because AMD

drivers suck. so i'm not using this card.

After last update to Nvidia's drivers I put my 470 back in. It is running flight and other new games at 3 to 8 FPS lower then the other cards.

But the 1,25 gigs of memory needs to be 1.5 for best performance.

Now the games run on a 870 Qcore. At 2,5 ghz and at 3.5 ghz no change in fps.

I read somewhere that they tested a lot of new game with the new amd 7000 and Nvidia 600 series cards and found that with Intel Qcore possessors running at 2.4 to 4.9 ghz there was no change in fps.

So having a test bed I figured I play with it.

I can slow all the cards down to 2 fps if I put loads of units on a map in Arma 2.

So if I had to do it over again to buy a board for one monitor or hd tv running at 1920 x 1050 or

1920 x 1200 I would by a 480 for $200 or less. and then look at new cards in a year and a half.

After playing with all this my Ivy Bridge, new Mobo and SSD are still setting in there boxes after

ten weeks. Hope this helps. I will be using the 670 for the time being until AMD gets there drivers

together if ever.

When I got my GTX560TI, they recommended at least a 500 watt. For a couple of dollars more ( around$60) i got a 600 watt, incase I add any more stuff. The original power supply in my Dell was 300 watts, and that is why they put that el- cheapo graphics card in it cause it didn't draw much power.
