July 27, 201213 yr Hello Don I am open to finding it, if in fact it exists. To my mind Flight! just feels similar to FSX + EZdok with the advantage going to the much more advanced payware aircraft available to the FSX user, Realair stuff being an obvious example but not the only one. Or any Bernt Stolle FME.. Flight excelled in wind dynamics though. I'll give flight that one.. That's where the big difference in flying was felt.. The wind and how it affected the plane.. July 27, 201213 yr Hello Except the weather effects were just themes, hardly an advance or superior to realtime weather.. I have just dropped back into the forum after having a last goodbye spin around in Unalakleet before I reclaim some disk space. What I found: It looks like FS9 with FSX water and that's being kind. Compared to the Realair Legacy in FSX, The VANS does not compare all that well, where can I find this mythical flight model that is so superior to FSX ? Help me out here. If that's what you decided to see than it was not for you. For myself, I agree that water was poor in some aspects and said it on the forums. What you again miss in the statement that it looked like FSX water was it looked like that water at max settings, and as we all know, it is recommended by almost everyone to turn that water to a lower setting, because in the preceding program it drags the frame rate down. This applied to shadows as well. I consider the fact that flight could do both of these simultaneously on relatively modest machines that could never support such effects in its predecessor with or without Ai features turned off or on as, yes, an improvement. I am not going to even bite at comparing a package of several islands, airports, planes missions activities, aerocaches and a whole continent etc against a single plane that costs just as much. Is that serious? In that sort of apples to bananas comparison you will have to help me out here. True, but still that is just an advancement from 6 year old software. Overall I would say that Flights graphical improvements from FSX were about half as big as FSX improvements from FS9, which isn't too much especially if we remember that there has been 2x more time beetween FSX release and Flight release than with FS9 - FSX release. I think that if one see's a glass as half full, then that's what you are gonna see. Obviously, and especially taking into account the statements of a member here who actually worked on the program, I am going to disagree. I believe that several advanced features were not yet implemented, but that this was not because of lack of ability in the engine itself, but simply a part of the planned roll-out of features for the sim. What I am going to see is that just months after its introduction, Flight showed parity in capability to its predecessor with almost all the current 3PD addons, and some noticeable superiority's in frame-rate, lighting and effects, and that was just the base program, which was still in its infancy. Anyone remember what the reaction to Flights predecessor was at this stage? Do we judge the worth of that program by its first 6 months? Does anyone really believe that in the next year or so that Flight would not have continued to grow even stronger as more assets were activated? (perhaps including the previously mentioned real-time weather?) If so, then I wont change any minds here, but I would find that akin to believing that all current active sims would also have failed to grow in that same time-frame. By that logic, it would be fair to believe that Xplane for instance, had now shown all the capabilities it had, with any faults firmly locked in forever, and would not be growing further as currently unfinished features were finalized. And how logical would that be? Especially when we are being constantly (with other sims) told how we just need to give them more time. Shouldn't that have applied to flight as well? Apparently not. We were not willing to wait (for whatever reasons) and neither was Microsoft, so that's that. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... July 27, 201213 yr Hello Parity in capabilities with current 3PD addons, really ? Yes. More specifically I mean in abilities in scenery creation/presentation; I also said almost all and that was quite deliberate. But as mentioned earlier, if you don't see it, you don't see it. July 27, 201213 yr Once you have seen what could be, its hard to go back to what was. Yes, have to agree with you. I never got into FSX but FS9 performs really well on my current hardware. I have been back to it a number of times and it it nice to have whole world and lots of planes but somehow it feels 'old hat'. Before simming my hobby used to be landscape painting. Perhaps it is time to go back to that.

Perhaps it is time to go back to that. I use to teach art. It never leaves you, and if you have the itch and the patience, its as good a way to spend ones time as any. But if you have the itch for flying, that will be hard to stay away from, too! I am hoping the disappointment with all of this fades with time. We are all connected.....
