July 29, 201213 yr Hi all, sorry to post really dum questions, but my 10-yr old son is keen on FSX (knows way more than me) and really wants to get more planes to fly. Can someone tell us the bet way to go about this? he's seem UT2 advertised, but as far as I can tell this is just traffic, and not new plans to actually fly - is that right? one of the posts on here mentioned Project Opensky - but their website says they are now closed down. are there any other good freeware options? thanks for any help and advice
July 29, 201213 yr UT2 is a scenery addon: it gives you (amongst others) real roads and coastlines. Be aware that there are a LOT of different addons for FSX: it's not all planes! For freeware you could look at the AVSIM File Library! Or you could simply search this forum for 'freeware'. Here is an older topic I found with some suggestions. (Don't mind the grumpy posts in it. ) http://forum.avsim.net/topic/344560-fsx-what-is-the-best-freeware/
July 29, 201213 yr While technically scenery, UT2 is an addon traffic program, not to be confused with Ultimate Terrain, or UTX, which modifies coastlines, roads and more. And no, it is not intended to add planes for the user to fly. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.

Need to find out if he likes the big airliners like 737 or 747, or smaller airliners, or is it general avation he likes such as small prop planes? ALso, how in depth does he want to get with the systems on the aircraft? Those kind of things will help us give you some ideas. Jim Wenham
July 30, 201213 yr my 10-yr old son is keen on FSX (knows way more than me) and really wants to get more planes to fly. Can someone tell us the bet way to go about this? Download freeware planes, there's a zillion available..:) If a plane turns out to be unsatisfactory or won't work for whatever reason (eg graphic glitches, no instrument panel, dodgy flight characteristics etc) just delete it and download another one until you find one that's okay, I do it all the time. However, payware planes are usually better so go straight for them if you don't want to spend too much time rummaging through freeware stuff..:) (PS- what planes does junior have in mind, jet fighters, lightplanes, airliners or what? If you list a few i'll try to find freeware downloads and will let you know how they check out)
July 30, 201213 yr this thread will help you to start filling up the virtual hangar with some really great freeware aircraft all all sorts.
July 30, 201213 yr Author Hi All, many thanks for all the replies. A couple have offered to give advice if we can be more specific. So if anyone can recommend good freeware options for 757, 767 and 777 that would be perfect. one of the threads linked above shows Just Flight 757 - is that a good bet? thanks again for help and advice
July 30, 201213 yr These work great: http://www.freeskyproject.com/ So do these: http://www.calclassic.com/ Have fun Dave
July 30, 201213 yr For the record this is a screenshot of my A/c Selection screen taken last month (I've since added a Vimy), it's a mix of stock machines that came with the game, plus a lot of freewares, and a few paywares. (I'm mostly a vintage nut) Some have got no instrument panels but i don't mind because i fly in external spot view most of the time, so the main thing i want in an addon is that it must graphically look good from the outside or i'll delete it and try another..:)
August 1, 201213 yr Author Hi thanks again for all the help and advice. So we've had a play with a couple of downloads, but not entirely successful. Could it be OS related? we're running Win7 64 bit... we tried a 777 from (http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/3481/fsx-emirates-boeing-777-300er/ ) and 757 from Just Flight (http://www.justflight.com/product/757-jetliner-freemium) both sort of work, but glitchy. 777 has no paintwork at all and no cockpit view. 757 looks good, but many buttons/switches won't turn etc or only turn one way are there any Win-7 recommendations for 757/767/777 ?
August 1, 201213 yr For Freeware, I would recommend Francois Dore's Project Airbus A320. He also makes a A318, A319 and A321! - Jay Hutchinson
August 1, 201213 yr Windows 7 64 has nothing to do with your problems. FSX is a 32 bit program but has no problems with Vista 64 or Win7 644. Dave
