Slow start up time in "fly Now" screen

I just keep my scenery as is, that's where I fly, I have Denmark Scenery from my past attempts at getting the "A" certificate here, some years ago. Now I can't even apply because of medical, I suffered a subachronic bleed back in 1986. So my only options to fly is the sim.The package is provided for free from local simmer association and it's very good,

Have to look through my notes as to where my settings have been in the past and beggin to experiment with this machine; So far I have got to shorter Loading times, though it stops at 6% as I mention above.

I have an EHD but it's only memory/storage.

I did disable a scnery from an independant provider fro EKRK ( Roskilde Airport) With an update that adds a Fuel truck; ( I think this is the culprit) Then I checked my scenery Library and I had four wilco citaion X animations and two EKRK, maybe one the scenery and the other the update; Trying to figure which is which. I did disable both and the loading time decresed considerably. then I played with the slider a bit and that helped as well.

Your FSX.cfg appears to have a wrong entry for your AI aircraft. I own MyTrafficX and the line for SimObjectPaths6 should be SimObjectPaths.6=MyTraffic\Aircraft. Your sim could be having issues finding the MyTraffic aircraft folder. I know I had all my photoscenery and addon scenery installed and FSX loaded quickly. Then I installed MyTrafficX and fsx fell to its knees with long load times. It happens with all AI software as FSX loads all the aircraft and flightplans and puts the aircraft all over the world. If you have your AI setting too high, this will take some time as you'll have more aircraft and flightplans to load. Go into your scenery library and disable MyTrafficX by removing the checkmark. See how fast it loads without the AI. I have an SSD and I agree with others it loads faster but not even an SSD can help the loading time of AI (well, maybe 10 nanoseconds faster....He%20He.gif ).

Jim, Thanks for your reply, I don't ownMy Traffic X; As I mention earlier playing with the sliders has helped a bit, I have had to adjust zoom manually to geta good view of the airpport building from the runway,as I had it before, I could read the letters SAS,in Red, Now whe it load the building is so far away. Then I zoom using my mouse wheel, to where I was before, I have to do this everytime I load.

I'm using an FSX.cfg file editted by Paul J which has worked. Wonder if I take it out and let FSX build a new one if that will help. The fault could also be in the scenery.cfg file. How does one build a new one of these?I'm desperate and would hate to reinstall...Don't have the time right now.

I don't own My Traffic X.

That line is probably for imported FS9 aircraft, Jim. I have such a folder myself, and MyTraffic has position 7 in my FSX.cfg.

I'm not sure, but I don't think you can rebuild the scenery.cfg as easily as the FSX.cfg. But you could deactivate all add-on scenery, and then reactivate them step by step , until you find longer loading times again. That scenery activated last will probably be the culprit for your long loading time, though as mentioned before, with more addon scenery the loading time will increase.

For the problem with the zoom: I guess the zoom level is saved in the FLT file (your saved flight) as well, but since I'm not at my simming rig at the moment, I can't say that for sure. Also I don't think that using a new FSX.cfg will do any help her, but you could try that as well, but back up the old one in case it doesn't.

Flo

Flo: Thanks for your reply! I just experimented and went to my FSX.cfg and placed two (//) In front of my default flight.

Started again and it loaded perfectly, like in 20 seconds...I was in the air in the Ultra Light, over Friday Harbour.

Then I paused it and went to my local...It took sometime to load, didn't freeze, though, I guess because the sim had already run?

I'll keep trying throughout the day and will report, It strange all this happened one night as if Gremlins had got into my machine and messed things up???When I first installed the zoom level was perfect, now it's like the building has moved far away.?

Thanks,

I have also observed that loading times increase dramatically when using a higher LOD_RADIUS in your FSX cfg.

I have significantly slower load up times, when mine is set higher(6.5), than the default of 4.5.

Maybe doing a decent defrag of your pc might help as well

Pete_au_au: run acomplete defrag. yesterday...It only helped the first time I loaded FSX...After that it took the same annoying times...I just checked to see if it needed defrag'ing again...It doesn't.

No, you cannot rebuild your scenery.cfg but there is an excellent Scenery Config Editor that fixes errors and you can use it too to manage scenery - http://sourceforge.net/projects/fs-sceditor/files/V1.0/.

I use PaulJ's FSX.cfg too. The best! Did you disable your AI traffic as I suggested to see if that improves loading times? If it does, then you know what the problem is that's slowing down loading times. There is no other 'magic bullet' to make loading faster. You can download the program Process Monitor and monitor it as FSX is loading and see if there's something that might be running to make the load times longer. Sometimes FSX is looking for a file and it is no longer there so that delays things. That's no fun though as the processes are loaded very fast. But you can save it and then review everything that happened.

I did that and it got me into a heap of trouble Paul J Then I used the scenery Confifig Editor and and saved me a reinstallation. I have been playing with my FSX.cfg and have found a better one that doesn't take that long to load...So far...I don'thave any AI traffic.

This is normal if you've got a lot of aircraft and especially third party AI installed. When I double click the FSX icon from my desktop, now with my massive addons, it takes at least 15 seconds before the loading bar even shows up. (and I've got an SSD!)... FSX takes about 1 min total to get into the aircraft from when I click the icon

Thanks for your reply ryanbatcund.

The reason why I stsrted the topic is because all of a sudden it started taking a longer time to load and I noticed the ber stopping,or not showing up at all for about 50 secs.thne freezing at 6% for the sam amount of time. This never happened to me on my old Computer and obviously I got concerned that my new/used purchase, although more powerful than my old one had already began to give me headaches

I put in Paul Js' FSX.cfg although it has already some [TRUSTED] in it helped the loading time.

I'll report...

Did you happen to load third party AI traffic? That's when my loading times doubled hehe... plus I made an entire copy of the traffic for my online flying models...

Now it takes 1.5 mins to load from Free Flight window ( My Default Flight). I realized that the .cfg file I put in from Paul was from my old computer and the GC didn't correspond, so I let FSX create a new one.

I just started FSX at night, local time and it took 2 mins to load to cockpit, no freezes while loading :yahoo: So far...
