Got the New PC Blues - Some Weird Issues

Featured Replies

Click under his avatar on the software and hardware profile links. That's a recent new rule in the AVSIM forum to place those in your profile and not in signatures or post content.

Hi Ronzie,

I've been here for many years - but not much lately - new rule ? Haven't a clue... I'm using Tapatalk on an iPad - as my PC is not behaving well... I can't see sigs and I didn't see any specs when clicking on the avatar... We are forbidden from posting specs in the content ? No biggie either way - sorry if it was againt the rules - it was a bit beyond the original scope of this thread anyway...

Regards,

Scott

The profile headers filled in by the user are shown under the user pix. It sounds like you have a browser incompatibility or a script is being blocked. You have filled in part of your profile prior to the forum change and now there are more parts to it.

In another thread Ian you responded to a question re MyTraffic 2006. It occurs to me that as that program is now freeware you could install that and see if its AI runs satisfactorily. By so doing may provide a pointer as to where the problem lies.

Best of luck mate.

Brilliant suggestion my friend! It worked!!! Took me a while to get around to it, as I was trying a variety of things to try to isolate the problem. Finally got around to downloading and installing MyTraffic 2005 and BINGO! The first scenery I tried was FSDT KDFW - wow! Packed with AI and the FPS went no lower than about 48 - mostly up around 60... Someone else suggested a possible link between the problem I was having and missing textures or effects for AI with the cpu running extra cycles trying to find them - I think that's going to prove to be the reason. Having transferred all my AI from my previous PC, I'm guessing that somewhere in the transfer something hasn't made it over, though I did transfer my old effects file along with AI aircraft...

It's going to take a while to find the culprit, but I now know for sure where the problem is.

Thank you!

Ian

Thank you!

My pleasure Ian.

Really glad you now seem to be on the right track.

Yes, it's now just a matter of finding and fixing the "culprit(s)." But I know exactly where to look and what to do so the problem is 99.9% solved...

Thanks again - I was really getting discouraged

Hi Ian, can i ask just out of curiosity, what driver version you are running with your 550ti? Thanks.

  • Author

The driver version is 301.2 It's the one the PC shipped with and it's still the latest, or was when I checked a few days ago.

My suspicion is that there are some background programs (like a version of Microsoft NET that I don't have on the new PC which were on the older one. (Though I'm using the same Windows 7 version???)

Dotnet was introduced about the same time FSX was released (Version 1). I doubt any FS9 developers used this technology as it did not exist. Microsoft Visuals C++ Redistributables 2005 with SP1 should be mandatory for all FS9 users as developers use it to tell the program (FS9 and FS9 addons) on how to install their product and run it. FSX was developed with MSV 2005 and later versions of MSV (2008 and 2010). Windows 7 automatically includes version 4 of dotnet. Previous OS's did not have this included. Microsoft and most FS9 developers will include the appropriate MSV and dotnet if it is not found on the system.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks Jim. I downloaded and installed it. At this point, I'm very happy with my new PC and the new install. I am still tweaking a few things but they aren't technical in any way - just a matter of putting in the time to get the new installation up to par with the old one - except with all sliders way to the right and FPS that I've always dreamed of having in FS9.

Thank you to everyone who helped me with this - I really do appreciate it. Now it's time to FLY!

Cheers

Ian
