Tu-114 : A Flying Palace

Hello, it will be soon one year since we started to work on this aircraft. Now, we don't promise a quick release but can say that the biggest part of the future package is ready. I hope it will be ready to upload in a month or two.For those who is unfamiliar with this aircraft (which woudn't be surprising since it's not in service since 1975), this is simply The Biggest passenger turboprop airliner in the world. It is also the most powerful and the fastest turboprop ever built. Apart from the fact that this Tupolev is merely beautiful, its cabin is something unique and merits to be called a historical masterpiece. Let us walk through and you'll see why.We start from the cockpit. Very big one, like in a modern widebody plane. Here you see the captain's seat and the navigator's place, in the glass nose (bomber's heritage)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/81521.jpg

OK, move now to the cabin. Here is the front passenger cabin. Not First Class or Business. We're in the Soviet Union, everybody's equal (well, some of them are more "equal" than the others). So it's just a front cabin, nothing more.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/81527.jpg

Probably the most impressive part is The Restaurant. Yes, the restaurant. In a flying palace you don't eat on your knees. There are tables, waiters, porcelane dishes... Behind the restaurant, there is a little kitchen with two electric lifts relying it to the first deck and a small compartment for attendance.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/81529.jpg

Tu-114 is a long-range aircraft. It can fly non-stop from Moscow to New-York (it brought Khroutchev and his famous shoe to UN). The aircraft we are visiting is the international version. It was mostly used for routes to Cuba and Japan. Domestic version didn't have a restaurant :)So, I've said, we are in a long-range aircraft. We'll be flying all the night. You'll probably want to sleep comfortably. No problem. We got sleeping compartments. What other plane got it ?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/81530.jpg

Finally, move to the rear passenger cabin. Not "second class" or "economical". Just rear :) http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/81531.jpgAnd if you look outside (the screenshot is made from the front cabin), you'll discover what makes this deep, powerful and hardly bearable noise: Kouznetsov Nk-12 engines 15000hp each, supplied with enormous counter-rotating propellers. They propulse this giant bird at the speed of modern jets: 845km/h (450kts). American fighters were often following Tu-114 on its routes to Cuba to verify it really can fly that fast. On domestic flights Moscow-Khabarovsk, pilots measured up to 550kts ground spped by strong winds.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/81533.jpg
