September 12, 201213 yr Hello, When using the outside views I cannot see the flaps or speedbrakes move when they are being deployed or retracted. I'm running a low end system (Dell XPS410, 1.86 dual core, 2gig RAM, NVIDIA GT240/1gig), so I have my sliders moved to the middle setting, especially when flying into KATL and KMEM where I have AFCADS installed. Even when maxing out the sliders and flying into KBNA, where I don't have AFCADS installed, I cannot see the flaps, speedbreaks or Wing Flex moving. I'm guessing I just don't have enough RAM and Processor size to display these effects ? Also, I added the highmemfix=1 entry to the .cfg and I still see the airplane skeleton most of the time. Any thoughts ? Thanks, Lee
September 12, 201213 yr Have you enabled advanced animations? Rostyslav S Wanna fly 737NGX with turbulence?
September 12, 201213 yr Commercial Member You're not trying to see these in a replay, are you? Kyle Rodgers
September 12, 201213 yr Author Yes. After I land and taxi to the gate I hit replay and watch the last 600 sec of my approach and touchdown. This is when I can't see the flaps, speed breaks or wing flex. I've never tried to see the flaps, speed breaks or wing flex during the actual flight. Thanks, Lee.
September 13, 201213 yr Commercial Member That's why. The Flight Sim replay function isn't a video replay that you'd expect of a camera. It's more like other rendering systems that aren't made for video output directly: it just takes the model of the plane and runs the model through in a very basic manner, without showing the more complex animations. In the older versions of FS, if you left the flaps down and then ran through the replay, the flaps would be down the whole time. I haven't used the replay function since FS98, though. Kyle Rodgers
September 13, 201213 yr Use FSRecorder. It records all the animations and has much better control etc.
September 13, 201213 yr Fsrecorder still won't record everything on the ngx. The way they coded their animations and the number of animations on the control surfaces and moving parts prevents full accurate playback. Limitations of fsx. AJ Pongress
September 13, 201213 yr Fraps works different. Essentially, what FS replay mode does, is take your flight trajectory plus some very basic data like gear position, and replay last XY seconds for you. FSRecorder in essence does a similar thing, but it captures more data, and stores it outside FS so you can reload it at any time. Fraps, and other similar solutions, do screen capture, that is, they record whatever you see. If you record live flight, they will capture wherever you look, outside or inside. If you capture a replay, or FS Recorder replay, they will capture whatever these show. --Peter Fabian

September 13, 201213 yr Custom stuff. Like it has no way of finding out which mode is set on specific displays, or what state custom systems are in. It could, in theory, if it was re-coded with PMDG SDK (to extent), but there would be very little gain for very big amount of work. --Peter Fabian
September 13, 201213 yr Author OK, all that makes sense. I switched to a wing view on final approach last night and I could see movement of all the control surfaces as well as the wing flex. I may take a look at FSRecorder. I have recently started using EZDOK. I wonder if it has a replay or record feature ? Thanks for the helpful input. Lee
