Lack of Clouds in ActiveSky?!?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have ActiveSky 2012 and I feel like theres never a lot of could not matter were I fly in the world. Can someone please help me?

Make sure you have the cumulus and stratus clouds wound up to 100% representation. I kept muttering to myself that I was getting no stratus then realised I had it at 0%!

Where do I see that? Thanks

Below Is what how I just updated my setting to.

That should do it. When I was having my problem, the last line was set on 0%. Did that not fix it? I think there's an Active Sky forum here that you could go ask in.

Just a thought - are you giving it a bit of time to generate the coulds at the beginning of a flight?

I actually moved the last line back to 0 as the clouds loook a lot more real and not flat. Yea I do give some time for the clouds to generate....

I think the two settings that are relevant to this is the amount of cloud layers (max 20 in the settings) and the cloud_coverage_density which is in the fsx.cfg. Try setting that to 12 at first and see if it helps.

I have also been wondering about the effects of the stratus %. My intuition told me to increase it from the standard, so I am using 50%, but most of the really nice pictures I have seen have had lower, like 20% or so.

20 cloud layers could put a big strain on your system. Start out with 5 or 6 and see how it goes.

20 or max as I have it. AS will only draw in what there is. It's not going to draw in 20 when there is only 3-4 there.

Just a question on reducing the stratus coverage: if it's down at 20% or 50%, do you still get BKN or OVC clouds generated? I had assumed that that percentage limited the amount of coverage provided.
