KJAC - Orbx Jackson Hole - thinking of buying

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Hopefully this message find everyone well.

I am thinking of picking up Jackson Hole from Orbx.

I have GSX and FSDT's KLAX and KLAS with everything running nice and smooth.

Can anyone let me know how the Orbx stuff performs? Would love this airport and do some KLAS to KJAC flights with the NGX.

Just want to make sure it's all FPS friendly etc.

It is a great scenery. It works with the Central Rocky Mountains (CRM) scenery from ORBX, but it is kind of a mini region rather then just an airport as its scenery covers the surrounding Teton Range.

I tend to fly the Delta Airlines 757 from Salt Lake City to Jackson Hole a lot as this is probably one of the best real world routes in the world. You can do this with the PMDG NGX as well.

Also due to high altitude it is a good challenge for Density Altitude calculations. It has many runway over runs in the real world and is a real challenge even for veteran pilots.

You can't go wrong with KJAC as it is my favourite airport they produced (And this is coming from a guy that owns all of them)

A definite buy. I love flying into and out of there.

Highly recommended, but like all Orbx airports, it's designed to work with the Orbx region it's in - in this case Orbx' "Southern Rocky Mountains". If you don't have SRM, you need to get it first. Will it work without the region? Sure, but you will see issues.

Otherwise, I recommend it without reservations.

Thanks for the info guys.

Am dowloading now and it's 4.1GB in size?

It didnt say anything about having to get SRM first though?

Am I going to experience issues?

1. It's CRM (Central Rocky Mountains)

2. Everywhere that it's available for sale, it is stated very clearly on the page that it is designed to be used with Orbx CRM. Without CRM you will miss out on several of the extras/eye candies/etc... and it will not blend nicely with the surround scenery.

Cheers!

I will happily go and download.

Thanks for that.

Since this is 'unofficial' forum

It will work but not as recomended. Seeing as it is a kind of mini-region you will see where the scenery ends at the edge of the scenery area. With CRM you won't see where the scenery ends as it is designed to work with CRM. Just make sure you download the latest ORBX Library after you install.

'Officially' you should really get CRM as it is awesome. One of the best regions (next to New Zealand of course)

Ha. Nice mate.

I haven't had a chance to download CRM yet but installed the airport. Looks great!

I will install CRM tomorrow ensuring I don't miss out on everything.

Good stuff though!

You're on the slippery slope now... once you start with the OrbX regions, you will not start... resistance is futile...

Says me, the owner of AU (all regions), PNW, PF, NRM, CRM, NZSI, oh and at least 75% of the airports they have already released...

My disk is filling with the wonders of OrbX...

By the way, flying something like the NGX into KJAC in CRM is an absolute dream... and I find the performance excellent too...

That's one thing I noticed was performance wise it's excellent. As good as fsdt's airports which I use as a bench mark. So far I am loving it!!!

Even when you get CRM going with KJAC you won't see a drop in performance. CRM is one of the best performing regions they have produced.

This is a fun airport to fly into. It's especially challenging for the NGX, as it's a very short runway, with a high altitude to boot. The 737 has a high approach speed, at least relative to the 757s that frequently utilize KJAC, . I had flown a short KDEN to KJAC route as a United 737-800 with the PMDG NGX, and I found I had to use flaps 40 AND max autobrake, and both these settings were firsts for me! Takeoff was also a challenge, because of the combination of short runway and high altitude, the NGX's takeoff performance is reduced so I was forced to use flaps 15 and I had to unload some payload just to be within the margin for error in case of a engine cut at V1. But it was worth it, as the scenery is spectacular, and it's nice to have a challenge every now and then.

Indeed, CRM. Brain cramp on my part - or perhaps wishful thinking, as I keep hoping they'll continue on into Colorado. :-)

In any case, enjoy.

Hello

You are right. Once you start, you won’t be able to stop; at least not easily.

Join the ORBX forums, you will find top notch support.

After you install whatever airport/area you buy, make sure you install its patches (if any) and lastly install the latest ORBX libraries 120825. http://www.fullterra...om/support.html

At the moment there is one exception “OG39 LongView Ranch” (install last or you will miss some CreatureFlow features)

Cheers.

Ramón.
Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
