October 12, 201213 yr I wrote this topic in PMDG 737NGX forum, since I think it only affects the PMDG 737NGX cockpit, but I didn't get any answers, so I'm writing here instead. I have always used PanelAsTexture=0 with my FS, it stops Anti ALiasing Settings to Blur the 2d Panel. But with PMDG 737NGX that setting stops the VC Textures from loading, the 2D works fine. Does anyone know any other solution I can use? I hate the look of the FMC with all that blur. Thanks! Alexis Mefano
October 12, 201213 yr Author I'm using Word Not Allowed FSX Guide, so 8xS with 2X MSAA I think. I don't want to give up that setting, it just works here! I don't have other addons to test, but RealAir Legacy, Vans RV-7, they all work with PanelAsTexture without any problem/. Alexis Mefano
October 12, 201213 yr Isn't the PanelAsTexture=0 entry an old FS2000-2004 cfg tweak for less than optimal systems back then? Your PC has more than enough power, the first thing I would have tried was not using that entry. I haven't used it since FS2002. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
October 12, 201213 yr Author Yeah but it prevents the Anti Aliasing from blurrying the 2D Panel. All things 2D looks a mess without that entry. Alexis Mefano
October 12, 201213 yr Are you using Nvidia Inspector.... I had the same problems. i followed kostas guide but didnt use inspector. after i used nvidia inspector with kostas settings it went away...
October 12, 201213 yr Author Yes I'm using NVIDIA Inspector. So I'm the only one with blurry 2D panels? Alexis Mefano
October 12, 201213 yr Hi Alexis, How blurry are we talking about? Blurry to the point where it's unusable? I haven't had any issues with the PMDG NGX 2D panel and I don't have the PanelAsTexture=0 in my FSX.cfg file. Mike
October 12, 201213 yr LOL. I think so. At least for people who have high-powered systems. This "tweak" you are employing in FSX caused many CTD's and other anomalies back in the FS2K2 and FS2K4 days. Just make sure you have Cockpit High LOD=1 in the Graphics section of your FSX.cfg. You have a very high powered system and there is no reason why your cockpits should be blurry. Just follow Word Not Allowed's Guide. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! October 12, 201213 yr prevents the Anti Aliasing from blurrying the 2D Panel The only NI AA setting that seems to blurr the panel, and everything else, is having FXAA tuned on. Either in NI, or the Night shader mod or even ENB can cause burrry/soft textures for me. The NGX is one of the most detailed and clear textured panels I have.
October 12, 201213 yr Author Let me post a screenshot of how the NGX 2D Panel looks like here. Actually, two photos, with AA and without it. (Warning! Large Pictures, 500KB both 1920X1200) With AA first. http://imageshack.us...01218312746.jpg Now Without AA. http://imageshack.us...01218333876.jpg Alexis Mefano
October 12, 201213 yr Quite a difference for sure. A lot of people turn off AA within FSX as they think the display drivers can do a much better job. I use DX10 Preview exclusively and have AA/AF enabled for the best resolutions. I personally have no problem with the AA picture. Yes, a little blurry but don't think that 'tweak' you are using is the best to resolve your AA issue. Like I said earlier, it has caused problems for many in the old Flight Sims. Perhaps more research is required.... In regards to the links to the pictures, that's great and AVSIM has no problems with this as you can have larger pictures than embedding them here on AVSIM. However, many AVSIM members do not have high powered computer connections and you might want to put a warning in your post to warn them the pictures are large. Thanks! October 12, 201213 yr Author Back in the FS2002/2004 days that Tweak was much more popular, I always used it for this purpose of avoiding AA to affect my 2D Panels. With FSX nobody mentioned it again, and most of us started using only Virtual Cockpits, so I think many people didn't even notice it. I have not been using that tweak, until I started using my iPad to display the 737NGX's FMC, the Blur makes a lot of difference to the Picture QUality on the Retina Display of the New iPad. October 12, 201213 yr I just checked my setup and, like I said, I use DX10 exclusively now. My panels were the same as those shown in your pictures... a little blurry with AA on, and no blurries and very clear textures and text with AA off just like in yours. I went back to DX9. This time, with AA turned on or off, the textures were crisp and clear just like in your no-AA pictures. So, do you have DX10 Preview turned on? This might be just an anomaly for DX10 users. Steve Parsons fixed most of the DX10 anomalies but maybe he can remove the panel blurries (which really aren't that bad and not a show stopper for me). Thanks for bringing the differences to my attention. Really never noticed this in the past. Going back to DX10.... Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! October 13, 201213 yr I get no blurring of the panel, and I do not use multi-sampling transparency. I suggest unchecking multi-sampling and using only sparse grid transparency. With that card, something like 4x looks nice with good performance. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
